The top two in La Liga meet and Real Madrid are not involved, Barcelona can stretch their lead at the summit to seven points if they beat Valencia at the Mestalla.

It comes a day after Lionel Messi signed a new contract with Barcelona until 2021. He leads the scoring charts in La Liga with 12 goals and on Friday picked up the 2017 European Sports Media Golden Shoe for being the top scorer in a domestic league last season with 37 goals.

The No 10 will have to be in top form if Barcelona are to dent their rivals’ title ambitions. Valencia have been this season’s biggest surprise so far, they are yet to lose and only scored one goal fewer than their more fancied visitors. It should make for a fascinating contest.
