A staunch animal rights activist has slapped with a fine after storming a piggery and forcing it into lockdown.

Jamila Riley appeared in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on Friday where she pleaded guilty to charges relating to the animal right protest.

The 22-year-old was part of a group of more than 100 people who targeted the Glasshouse Country Farms at Beerburrum in December last year.

About 30 protesters wearing black T-shirts that read ‘meat the victims’ stormed the piggery following claims of animal mistreatment, The Courier Mail reported.

There were another 70 activists outside during the protest.

Activist Leah Doellinger broadcast a live Facebook video from inside the piggery, during which she appears visibly upset and can be heard saying: ‘We are in here with the victims and we’re not leaving.’

Ms Doellinger also said: ‘This kind of resistance aims to oppose oppressive systems that have seen other animals be enslaved, exploited and harmed.’

The farm had been targeted by animal rights activists in April last year, however, there was no suggestion that Riley was part of the first protest.

Riley was charged with unlawfully entering farmland but escaped without conviction.

She was fined $150 and given a stern warning by Magistrate Rod Madsen.
