Over the years Vegemite has been paired with some creative partners.
The iconic spread has been served with avocado, chocolate and even pasta, but the latest coupling has left the public scratching their heads.
A woman has posted her creative Vegemite recipe to a vegan group on Facebook.
All the usual suspects were there, white bread, butter, a perfect amount of Vegemite, but sitting on top of the souped up toast was a handful of pine nuts.
The woman’s snack boasted all the traditional trimmings of white bread, butter and medium level of Vegemite but she souped it up with a handful of pine nuts scattered across bread and board
She posted a picture of her creative snack with the understated caption ‘Vegemite & pine nut toast.’
The photo was then posted to the vegan group to popular Instagram account browncardigan.
The post read: ‘STOP WITH THE TRIGGERING #imnotokay #stopthis’
The public were quick to share their disgust for the pairing of the iconic spread and the expensive nut.
The post quickly went viral, with over two thousand people liking the image, and two hundred commenting.
‘Those pine nuts are not even toasted ya filthy animal,’ one user wrote.
She posted the eye-brow raising combo to a private vegan group in Australia
Just this week Core Espresso, in Newcastle, NSW, became the subject of bewilderment and outrage on social media after one dissatisfied customer uploaded a photo of the cafe’s unique take on Vegemite and toast.
The picture shows a wooden board with two pieces of sourdough bread, a quenelle of butter and a pseudo trendy smear of Vegemite struck through the middle.
Commentators were quick to compare the latest social media post with the ‘deconstructed Vegemite toast’.
‘With the price of pine nuts she will never save a deposit to own a slice of the aussie dream. Pine nuts are the next smashed avo,’ said another.
‘Deconstructed Vegemite Toast with Pine nut Velouté,’ joked another.
But not everyone thought the concoction was disgusting. Some users commented that they thought it looked good.
‘I reckon it would actually be pretty tasty,’ one wrote.
‘Not gonna lie, I have made the combo drunk and despite appearances it goes alright,’ said one user.
