Australia’s iconic brand Vegemite has been officially certified as vegan friendly
‘The same Vegemite you know and love, now certified by Vegan Australia,’ the company announced via Facebook on World Vegan Day on November 1.
‘Tastes like: VEGEMITE, now is certifiably vegan-friendly… By doing absolutely nothing to its recipe. Truth be told, it always has been.’
Vegemite senior marketing manager Matt Gray said: ‘With over 10 per cent of Australians choosing a vegan or vegetarian-based diet, it’s important that they can still enjoy the nation’s favourite spread.
‘So we sought official certification from Vegan Australia.’

The Vegan Australia Certified logo helps customers identify vegan products they can trust and save time from interpreting ingredients or contacting manufacturers.
Vegemite nutritionist Claire Saundry said there are now more than 2.5 million Australians following a vegetarian diet – a figure that is up from 2.2 million in 2014.
‘Vegemite is rich in four B vitamins, including Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin and Folate, making it a fitting choice for vegetarians and vegans,’ she said.
‘Now endorsed by Vegan Australia, vegetarians and vegans can confidently enjoy Vegemite as part of a balanced, varied diet and active lifestyle.’
