Veteran sports reporter Tony Jones has a shocking spray at the AFL live on Footy Show after learning he has been snubbed by this year’s Brownlow Medal event: ‘You can get stuffed!’

Sports reporter Tony Jones has lashed out at the AFL after learning that he was not invited to the 2022 Brownlow Medal ceremony.

The veteran journalist had the spray live on the Sunday Footy Show after realising that he had been denied entry for the first time in 32 years.

‘If the AFL is watching, you can get stuffed, it’s a crap night,’ the 60-year-old snapped, to laughter from his co-stars.

His colleague Damian Barrett had explained that he had received his own invitation some weeks prior.

Barett also confirmed than another of their colleagues, news presenter Alicia Loxley, had likewise been invited.

Jones was then asked if he had done anything that might have upset the league and led to the snub.

‘Just promote the game in a good light’ he replied coolly.

‘I was unaware of it until I heard Damo (Damian Barrett) speaking to the wardrobe department’ Jones added.

‘I’ve gone through all my emails, archives, junk, anyway, so I’ve officially been snubbed.’

Jay Allen, the AFL communications boss, confirmed to The Daily Telegraph earlier this week that Jones was indeed not extended an invite.

The matter had since been rectified and Jones is now welcome to come along – however he has indicated he will likely not accept the offer.

‘I’m not sure…’ Jones told The Herald Sun when asked if he will now attend.

‘We have had a lot of practice over the last two years at being agile when needed and I want to thank the Seven Network, Crown Melbourne and all our partners for being so accommodating with this decision,’ AFL chief executive Gillon McLachlan said in a statement.

‘It’s the right one, and we’re incredibly glad to have their support’ McLachlan added.

‘In the lead up to the AFL grand final, the Brownlow is the AFL’s night of nights, and we look forward to celebrating the medal count accordingly on the Sunday night.’
