Wembanyama will be part of the Spurs’ Summer League team in Las Vegas starting July 7.
The Frenchman was widely considered to be the most nailed-on first pick in the Draft since LeBron James back in 2003.
He took a lot of the hype in his stride leading up to the Draft itself in New York, but wept when the Spurs officially chose him.
‘It’s just, accomplishing something that I’ve been dreaming of my whole life,’ he said.
‘Hearing that sentence from (NBA commissioner) Adam Silver, you know, I’ve dreamed of it so much. I got to cry, man.
Wembanyama’s hype has already been seen exciting the Spurs fanbase after not only did season ticket sales soar following the announcement San Antonio securing the No. 1 overall pick, but fans attending the team’s draft watch party also created a massive line outside the team store to buy his jersey after the pick was officially made.
He also recently posted picture a picture after meeting Spurs legends Tim Duncan, David Robinson, Manu Ginobili and Sean Elliott.
‘Couldn’t ask for better role models,’ Wembanyama captioned the picture.
