Victoria Beckham has revealed how she designed the dress she wore to Meghan and Harry’s wedding in May so she could ‘get some skin out’ in church, while still remaining appropriate.
The pop star turned designer made the revelation as she unveiled a £1,495 replica of the dress that fans can buy in a video interview with French Vogue, which she shared on Instagram.
‘So I went to a little wedding a few months ago. It was the royal wedding, actually – not such a little wedding,’ the 44-year-old said.
‘What do you wear to a royal wedding? I knew that I wanted something that was appropriate, something that was feminine, something that I felt comfortable in, but I also wanted it to have a little bit of edge.
So I designed this dress that has this really beautiful D-ring neck detail, because I love the toughness. It’s very slimming, that is always key.
‘A nice slash down the front to get some skin out, it makes it feel feminine and makes it feel quite sexy, but still appropriate.
And then we’ve got these slits in the sleeves, so when I wore it I had it open so I could get some arm out.

It was the hottest day that I think England has ever had. I was sitting in the car for two hours before I got to the royal wedding and I felt cool and comfortable, so it’s perfect for summer.
The dress is from Victoria’s pre-spring/summer 2019 collection, which arrives in stores in November.
The mother-of-four previously told The Evening Standard she felt honoured to be invited to the big day, despite maintaining her famously dour pout throughout.
‘It was such a beautiful, incredible wedding. It was just the best day,’ she said. ‘They looked so happy, and everybody was just so happy for them.

‘Meghan seems like a genuinely lovely woman, who really loves him.’
Asked if she felt nervous, Victoria added: ‘I wasn’t nervous, no. I was just really honoured to have been invited. I would have been nervous if it had been my day.’
Victoria was heavily pregnant with Harper Seven when she attended the wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton in 2011.

At the time, she wore a very similar navy blue dress and pillar box hat therefore disappointing fashion critics when she wore the same shade for Harry and Meghan’s big day.
Nevertheless, Victoria simply said it was ‘such a relief’ to choose whatever she wanted to wear without a baby bump to cover.
‘I love a bit of navy,’ she explained. ‘The dress is one of my favourites: it isn’t in store until November, but we’ve had so many inquiries about it that I’m seeing whether I can bring it forward.’
