Victoria records a jump in Covid cases with 1,007 new infections while NSW sees 262


Victoria has recorded 1,007 new COVID-19 cases, while NSW has recorded 262 new cases.

There were also 12 deaths linked to Covid in Victoria as the state awaits an announcement on more freedoms once 90 per cent are fully vaccinated.

The health department confirmed on Thursday the state is now managing 13,814 active coronavirus infections.

It brings an end to Victoria’s four day streak of cases under 1000, after the state recorded 996 infections on Wednesday.  

There are currently 337 virus patients in hospital, with 63 actively infected with COVID-19 in ICU, 65 have been cleared, and 34 on ventilators.

The seven-day hospital average now sits at 384.

Health officials say virus testers processed 72,270 results on Wednesday and 6315 people were vaccinated at state-run hubs.

Victoria is now 88 per cent double-vaccinated in those aged over 12.

Once the 90 per cent mark is reached, Victorians are promised a return to normality with patron caps removed and masks only required on public transport and in high-risk settings.

On Tuesday Mr Andrews said he would reveal when restrictions will be eased by the end of this week.
