Victoria’s Secret’s Roosmarijn de Kok was once arrested

This year’s Victoria’s Secret fashion show will feature a rather dark angel with a criminal past – and a love of free candy.

Dutch model Roosmarijn de Kok was arrested in New York City on July 2014, after a security guard caught her making her way out of the Tribeca Whole Foods with an expensive bottle of DHA fish oil and three chocolate bars – that she had not paid for – in her purse.

At the time, the 22-year-old was accused of misdemeanor petty larceny and criminal possession of stolen property in the fifth degree, but the charges were dropped after she served a day of community service at a soup kitchen.

Turning things around: The model has since moved on from the awkward incident and recently landed herself a spot in the Victoria’s Secret fashion show

During the court case, Roos’s lawyer Sal Strazzullo claimed that his client had simply put the items in her bag and forgotten about them when she went to the register to pay for a non-fat yogurt and some protein bars.

‘While she was about to leave the store, she remembered what she had in her bag. When she turned around, the store detectives were like, “We got you,”‘ he told the New York Post at the time of the court case.

He went on to insist that his client was completely innocent, adding: ‘The complaint states that she attempted to leave — it doesn’t state that she did leave. She’s totally innocent.’

Despite claiming innocence, however, a person who was close to the model at the time of her arrest told the New York Daily News that she was ‘terrified’ then cops handcuffed her – and was incredibly worried about the incident damaging her long-term career prospects.

And the trouble didn’t end there for the budding fashion star – who at the time had already chalked up some impressive portfolio work, modeling for Urban Outfitters and Vogue Thailand.

Shortly after arriving at the Manhattan Criminal Court, where her case was heard, a Saint Laurent-clad Roosmarijn, who was then just 19, was reportedly scolded by the judge for crossing her arms.

Thankfully for Roos, however, her seemingly disrespectful behavior didn’t harm her case.

Indeed, her lawyer Strazzullo was able to strike a deal with the judge, who agreed that the charges would be dropped if the model stayed out of trouble for six months and did a day of community service.

As part of the deal, Roosmarijn did not have to plead guilty to shoplifting.

She served her community service time in October, 2014, at the Lower East Side Girls Club, where her friend, actress Rosario Dawson who’s a board member of the charity.

Roosmarijn and some of the world’s top models like Gigi Hadid and Adriana Lima will walk on the 2017 Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Shanghai in November.

The Dutch beauty, who has previously modeled for Urban Outfitters and appeared in Vogue Thailand, was given the covered Victoria’s Secret wings at the company’s headquarters in Manhattan last week and said she was ‘forever grateful’ for the opportunity.

In a sweet video posted on the Victoria’s Secret Instagram account, and reposted by Roos, the model can be seen welling up with joy after being told by the brand’s chief marketing officer Ed Razek that she had earned a spot in this year’s fashion show, which is set to take place in Shanghai.
