A video of Sydney identity John Ibrahim punishing high-end real estate agent Ryan Watsford by waxing off his eyebrows has been played to a jury at a trial over the illegal possession of a handgun.

A video of Sydney identity John Ibrahim (pictured with his girlfriend, Sarah Budge) punishing high-end real estate agent Ryan Watsford by waxing off his eyebrows has been played to a jury at a trial over the illegal possession of a handgun

In the video, Mr Ibrahim – with the help of a blonde beautician – rips off Mr Watsford’s eyebrows with a flourish and a yell after being begged to ‘go easy’ and ‘just rip it’.

Mr Ibrahim can be seen laughing before he picks up both eyebrows on the wax strips and poses for the camera.

The video was played at Mr Ibrahim’s girlfriend Sarah Budge’s trial in the NSW District Court on Friday.

Budge, 29, has pleaded not guilty to three weapons charges after police found a defaced Glock 26 pistol and a magazine loaded with 16 bullets in her Double Bay unit in August 2017.

The video of Mr Ibrahim waxing off Mr Watsford’s eyebrows was uncovered by Australian Federal Police from a phone found at his home the same day they found the gun at Budge’s apartment, the jury heard on Friday.

Also found in Mr Ibrahim’s home during the police raid on August 8, 2017, just days after the video was taken, were the eyebrows kept in a shelving unit next to a fireplace in the main lounge.

The court was told a police investigation found the waxing of the eyebrows had come after Mr Watsford and Jaron Chester took $30,000 from Mr Ibrahim’s brother Michael.

‘As a result of that Michael Ibrahim became upset, it appears John Ibrahim has (inserted) himself into the situation to calm things down,’ leading senior constable Albert Osseily told the court.

‘And it appears Jaron Chester and Ryan Watsford did in fact have their eyebrows waxed as punishment.’

The court had previously heard evidence from a forensic biologist with the Australian Federal Police that DNA found on the trigger of the stolen gun found at Budge’s home, and a beanie it was hidden in, belonged to an unidentified man dubbed ‘Male One’.

That DNA profile – of Male One – was also found on the fabric used to remove Mr Watsford’s eyebrow.

As he was cross examined by Ms Budge’s barrister Simon Buchen SC, Snr Cnst Osseily revealed police and the Commonwealth DPP had requested a DNA sample from Mr Ibrahim and were unsuccessful.

In one request made to a solicitor by the AFP in 2018, an officer writes that ‘John Ibrahim is a suspect for possession of the firearm’, and then asks whether he is willing to come to the police station for an interview.

Mr Buchen has previously suggested Mr Ibrahim or one of his associates hid the pistol and ammunition in Ms Budge’s bedroom wardrobe days before police found them.

The trial before Judge David Arnott continues.
