Theme park-goers have had a Fright Night to remember after they were forced to dodge a food cart that came crashing down a huge escalator.

A video shows the horrifying moment a Universal Studios Hollywood employee seemingly lost control of the heavy metal box and it went barreling down the long stairway at a startling speed.

The clip shared online captures the shocked and scared facial expressions of ticket-holders heading from the Lower Lot to the Upper Lot at the Los Angeles park.

According to information on the studio tour, the stairway is a quarter-of-a-mile-long and it takes people seven to eight minutes to travel between the areas on average.

But the footage shared by someone who was attending their Halloween-themed festivities showed the food cart crashing down the escalator in a matter of seconds.

A couple of young attendees are seen narrowly missing being hit by the box and the smaller cases within that fell out, as they playfully slid down the median, apparently unaware of what was coming.

The cart was on a second set of escalators heading downward, positioned in the center and which is appears no one was using.

It’s only due to screams of those heading up – and looking in the direction from where the food cart came – that those looking down were alerted to the danger behind them.

‘Witnessed someone almost get taken out by a refrigerator tumbling down the escalator omggg,’ a Twitter user posted October 18. She followed the tweet up with the video of the action.

‘Y’all think I’m playing,’ she commented on the video captioned ‘what the f**k’.

The end of the clip appears to show someone in a chef hat ducking down and looking coy as guests wearing devil horns and other costumes in preparation for October 31, looked on aghast.

One person who claims to have worked for Universal Studios commented on the video: ‘We love that universal doesn’t let their workers use the elevator even whilst carrying heavy items.’

When asked by the social media user who shared the video whether that was the case, she recalled: ‘I’m pretty sure lmao i had a whole tray of like 100+ donuts and i had to use the escalators.’

It’s unclear whether anyone was hurt in the incident.

DailyMail.com reached out to Universal Studios Hollywood Tuesday but did not receive an immediate reply.
