Viewers PAN first episode of Live with Kelly and Mark – branding couple’s ‘fake banter’ as ‘painful’

Viewers have panned the first episode of Live with Kelly and Mark – branding Mark Consuelos and Kelly Ripa’s ‘fake banter’ as ‘painful’ and slamming Kelly for ‘interrupting’ her husband and new co-host, Mark, on numerous occasions.

Mark, 52, took over for Ryan Seacrest, who left the morning show last week after co-hosting for nearly six years so he could focus on his other endeavors.

But the actor’s first day was met with fierce criticism from social media users – after some people felt like Kelly didn’t let him speak.

Twitter was flooded with messages from people who criticized the TV personality, 52, for being a little too overbearing during her and Mark’s first morning as co-hosts.

Others complained that the show almost put them to sleep – with one person stating that ‘husband and wife’ co-hosts just ‘doesn’t work.’

During the episode, the couple – who fell in love on the set of All My Children and have been married for 27 years – sat down with TLC singer Rozonda ‘Chilli’ Thomas and psychic Char Margolis.

They also reflected on some of the great times they previously had together on the show and showed a montage of hilarious clips from over the years.

At one point, they also opened up about a recent romantic stroll they took together through Central Park. But as Mark told the audience about the date, Kelly quickly cut him off.

‘We used to run through the park, but now we’re -‘ he said, before Kelly joined in, ‘We used to chase each other.’

‘We saw some people who we used to see run and they were now also walking,’ Mark continued.

But then, Kelly interjected again. She said: ‘It’s so funny how, I don’t know if it’s age or our knees, whatever it is, time.

‘We were big runners but yesterday I we weren’t even power-walking. Nobody was sweating.’

A different person said, ‘Painful. They never say anything of substance… Just fake banter,’ while someone else simply wrote, ‘Yawn.’

‘Husband and wife working [as co-hosts] doesn’t work,’ a different user stated. ‘They have same daily experience. Why would it be interesting?’

Another user said: ‘I will miss Ryan but I LOVE Mark on the show.’

Ryan made the shocking announcement that he was leaving the series back in February, revealing at the time that he had been thinking about resigning ‘for a long time,’ while calling the decision ‘bittersweet.’

He explained on Instagram that while he was going to ‘miss his work wife and the laughter they share,’ he is ready to focus on his other work – like hosting American Idol, his radio show on KIIS-FM, and Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.

He also announced that he will be focused on ‘opening three more Ryan Seacrest Foundation Studios in pediatric hospitals across the country’ over the next few weeks.

‘When I signed on to host Live in 2017 it was meant to be for three years, but I loved the job and working with Kelly so much that I extended my time and last year I made the decision to stay on for one more final season,’ he wrote in an emotional tribute.

‘I’ve been grateful to be able to share a cup of coffee with our viewers everyday, one of the best parts of the gig.’

Ryan added that he will be back to guest host any time Kelly or Mark is out.

‘Congratulations to my brother Mark, feel free to remodel my dressing room,’ he concluded.
