Viewers rip into Tones and I’s ‘annoying’ performance at the Women’s World Cup final between England and Spain: ‘TV muted’

The Women’s World Cup final certainly delivered its share of excitement on Sunday night Spain went head-to-head with England,

However, not all aspects of the night were met with roaring approval, especially when it came to the pre-match entertainment. 

FIFA’s decision to feature Australian singer Tones had many viewers reaching for the mute button on their remote control. 

Fans were quick to air their displeasure on social media, with a deluge of criticism targeting the Dance Monkey’ singer’s performance.

‘I would like to disown Tones and I [because] she makes bad music and this pre show is horrible,’ vented one disgruntled fan on X, formerly known as Twitter.

However, not all aspects of the night were met with roaring approval, especially when it came to the pre-match entertainment 

‘Out of every artist in Australia they HAD to pick f**king Tones and I,’ added another viewer punctuated alongside a crying face emoji.

‘I’ve always found Tones & I’s singing really annoying. Absolutely hated Dance Monkey when it was being played everywhere,’ write a third. 

And the sentiment seemed widespread.

‘Imagine buying a WWC final ticket only for Tones and I to perform.’

‘Tones and I… TV muted,’ added one more. 

The shade thrown at the Aussie singer was palpable, with another viewer stating flatly: ‘Tones and I is just awful.’

‘Great performance by Tones. From being homeless to performing at #FIFAEEC final!’ added another. 

Some even thought she was the perfect curtain-raiser for such a prestigious event. 

One fan said she ‘smashed the opening,’ while another believed she was the ‘perfect fit’ for the event.

In a heartwarming show of support, a viewer penned: ‘How awesome is Tones And I, certainly setting the tone for Women’s football, for any endeavours.’

Tones and I, who started her career busking while living out of a van, had a hit debut single with Johnny Run Away and on the back of that international acclaim with her record breaking ear-worm, Dance Monkey.
