Liverpool’s Georginio Wijnaldum has given an update on Virgil van Dijk’s situation following knee surgery, admitting the centre half is going through ‘hell’ but staying ‘very strong’.
Van Dijk is likely to miss the rest of the season after having an operation on his anterior cruciate ligament following a rash challenge by Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford in last month’s Merseyside derby.

‘Virgil will return with God’s will,’ he told VI, while away on international duty with Holland.
‘It is a difficult time for him; this is the worst thing you can experience as a football player.
‘You go through hell. But I think he is very strong. We FaceTime every now and then and that is very nice.’
