Virgil van Dijk hilariously mocked Aston Villa defender Pau Torres during a heated moment in Liverpool’s 2-0 win at Anfield on Sunday.
The Reds captain played a pivotal role as Liverpool scored twice in the 2-0 win to establish a five-point gap at the top of the Premier League table.
Villa’s difficult run of form continued with defeat at Liverpool as both Darwin Nunez and Mohamed Salah got on the scoresheet in the convincing victory ahead of the international break.
|Tempers flared at various times during the match and one incident involving Torres and Liverpool midfielder Ryan Gravenberch provoked the Reds captain to get involved.
Torres tangled with Gravenberch in the 85th minute when attempting to win the ball back and ran into the back of the Dutchman before theatrically hitting the deck.

The Spaniard proceeded to roll around on the ground clutching his knee and then his face before eventually getting back to his feet after receiving treatment.
Torres and Van Dijk then exchanged words as the referee halted play with the Liverpool skipper mocking Torres’ reaction and reminding him of his physical stature.
Van Dijk aimed a dig at Torres, telling the Villa star ‘You’re 6ft4 mate’ much to the delight of TNT Sports commentator Darren Fletcher who laughed following the exchange.
Torres later left the pitch momentarily after receiving medical attention from Villa staff
The 27-year-old Villa defender didn’t stick around for long and looked back at Van Dijk ruefully as he walked off the pitch as is standard practice when physios are brought onto the field of play.
However, some Villa supporters were angered by Van Dijk’s comments and pointed out how the centre-back had acted similarly to Torres after being bodied by Morgan Rogers in the first-half.
Reacting to Van Dijk’s jibe on X, one supporter fumed: ‘But he can go down like a fairy in the first half when he barely gets touched.’
Another similarly added: ‘That would be the 6ft 4 inch Van Dijk that collapsed in the box himself.’
