She may be missing a coveted spot on the catwalk this year, but Australian Victoria’s Secret model Bridget Malcolm is hardly staying silent.
The former Angel, who is not walking in next week’s Shanghai show, has hit back at claims that she is ‘too thin’ and sending young girls a bad message.
Bridget took to her personal blog after one fan – revealed to be recovering from an eating disorder – said she found the model’s Instagram to be ‘really triggering’.

The Victoria’s Secret model, who is not walking in this week’s Shanghai show, responded that she does not ‘just eat vegetables all day’
‘You barely eat any calories and avoid carbs a lot,’ the fan wrote, in a comment that Bridget shared in full on her site.
‘You should be careful what you post as you are an inspiration to many girls who will follow you and think that just eating vegetables all day is healthy.’
‘You also post pictures of yourself looking too thin – this acts as a message to fellow girls that “too think” is okay, which it is not.’
Bridget responded that she needed to ‘respectfully defend’ herself, writing that she does not ‘just eat vegetables all day’.
‘Yes I do eat a lot of them – but I also eat other foods daily too. I regularly write about how I eat loads of nuts, avocados, fruit, quinoa, superfoods, etc.’
Bridget wondered if the comment was inspired by one of her recent Day on a Plate posts, in which she wrote that in ‘every meal, the hero is vegetables’.
Bridget revealed she also uses the app MyFitnessPal to keep tracks of all her minerals and vitamins and to ensure she is hitting all her ‘nutritional needs on a vegan diet’
The model wrote that she ate around 1,500-1,600 calories a day, and that – according to the app – most of her calories came from carbohydrates
‘I hate our society’s obsession with protein,’ the model had written in a post on her blog back in August.
In the same post, Bridget said she only eats when ‘the sun is up’, drinks up to five litres of water a day, and eats tofu or beans with every meal.
But in her most recent blog post, Bridget revealed that this kind of diet was what she ate when she was ‘in training’.
‘One cannot live on vegetables alone and be healthy! I definitely do not. I will do a day on a plate out of training for you guys though. Need to keep it real,’ she wrote.
Bridget also shared that she has always struggled to put on muscle and has learned through the years how to maintain her weight with ‘good, whole food’

‘I am built the way I am,’ she added. ‘I am a model, I have always been lanky and slender.’
‘Eating three meals a day was something I had to learn, and eating enough of everything was a real struggle for a long time for me. But this is all behind me now.’
Bridget added that she was not a ‘slave to food’, eats when she wants to, and fuels herself enough to happily move through life

‘This is the size that works for me. I am a size 2-4, I eat dessert if I want it, and I have the energy to live life. I am by all means not “too thin”‘, she added.
‘I get my periods, can run for miles, and kick someone’s a**. I certainly didn’t always have the energy to do this.’
Bridget also told her fan she would take the comments ‘into consideration’ because she wanted to be a ‘good role model for young women and men’.

‘I am coming from a very peaceful and loving place – I just want you to understand that everyone has her or his own journey,’ she told her fan directly.
‘Being a positive female role model in this society is extremely important to me, and I try to be as transparent as possible.’
‘I am a woman, and my weight will go up and down. I am also a model with very specific instructions as to how my body should look at certain times.’
‘However I cannot change the way I am built, I have learned to embrace that fact that I will always have a small B cup (orrrr an A) and be on the smaller side. I like myself.’
