Interior designer reveals the three things that make this living room ‘cheap and tacky’ – and how to avoid the same mistakes
- The expert listed loose electronic cords and tacky pillows as cheap
- Hundreds of people took offence at the comments
An interior designer has revealed the three things you should never have in your house if you want to avoid looking cheap.
The expert, from Vybe Interior, said loose electronic cords, cheap bright pillows with inspirational quotes and mass produced art make your house ‘look tacky’ and should be avoided.
The first thing she mentioned was cord clutter from visible cords escaping from different electronic devices, she recommends hiding the cords in special covers.
The expert said loose electronic cords, bold/quote stamped pillows and mass produced art can all make your house ‘look cheap’
‘You can run your cords through the wall if possible and if not you can get a little case from Amazon. So much better,’ she said.
She also dislikes pillows with inspirational quotes, such as those with sayings like “live, laugh, love”.
One of her biggest pet peeves is mass produced artwork, because she says everyone has the same pieces.
‘When you’re looking for artwork, look for something a little bit more original, something that not everyone will have,’ she said.
The expert received so much attention on the clip that she uploaded a second video with more things that make people’s houses ‘look cheap’.
The first thing she mentioned was lighting, explaining that both outdated lighting fixtures and exposed L.E.D lighting can make a room look cheap.
The final mistake people make with their homes is putting up artwork that is ‘too small for the space’.
She recommended trying to create a focal point with artwork instead.
The expert said both outdated lighting fixtures and exposed L.E.D lighting (pictured) can also make a room look cheap
However, some of her followers were outraged at the list of everyday ‘cheap’ items, which many people admitted they have at least one of.
‘Just let people be happy with whatever they like and can afford,’ one annoyed fan said.
‘What if I am cheap?’ one woman asked.
‘Things that make my house look cheap: no money,’ another quipped.
‘If it makes you happy then it’s not cheap,’ another said.
However, other people appreciated the advice and encouraged others to take it on board too.
‘Anybody hating on this video definitely has “live laugh love” on a pillow in their house,’ one woman said.
