Waitrose is recalling its own-brand New York Cheesecake because it may contain strands of plastic.
This is the second time the upmarket food store has admitted such a fault in its products in six months.
The company says the £4 Waitrose own brand sweet treat ‘may contain very thin strands of plastic, which makes this product unsafe to eat’.
There are no reports of anyone falling ill but the company is warning customers not to eat the product and instead return it to a store for a full refund.

Affected packets weigh 540g and have a use-by-date of up to and including March 6.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said: ‘Waitrose is recalling Waitrose New York Cheesecake because it may contain very thin strands of plastic, which makes this product unsafe to eat.’
No other Waitrose products are known to be contaminated and point of sales notices will be displayed in all retails stores that sell the dessert.
Last September Waitrose was embarrassingly forced to recall a selection of its own-brand chocolate bars over fears they could contain plastic.
The store also had to pull thousands of boxes of cookies last summer over fears some could be a health risk to people with nut allergies.
