Muslim feminist Dr. Susan Carland has revealed the secret to a successful marriage, after being married to Waleed Aly, 39, for 16 years.

On Monday, the Melbourne academic, 38, took to Instagram to confess the pair have enjoyed many years of martial bliss due to a simple photography hack.

‘The secret to being married more than 16 years? If my husband ever tries to look better than me in a photo, I shut that thing down,’ Susan captioned the snap in jest.

She accompanied the post with two contrasting photos.

In the first snap, the cheerful couple are seen flashing their pearly whites to the camera.  

However the second shot appeared to be much less amorous as Susan was pictured with her hand splayed over Waleed’s face.

She appeared to be quite amused by her attempt to shield her husband’s handsome visage as she shot the lens a wide grin. 

Susan’s unique relationship hack comes after she dished on the most bizarre questions people ask her about converting to Islam and wearing a hijab. 

Speaking to Yahoo!Be, Susan revealed the biggest queries that people seem to be itching to know about her decision to wear a head scarf or hijab.  

“In the end, the reason I wear the hijab or the headscarf as an active worship to God,” she told Mamamia in 2016.

While on the red carpet at the 60th TV Week Logie Awards in July the media personality laughed off some of the most common misconceptions.

‘There are a few unusual questions,’ Susan began.

Chuckling as she listed three, she added: ‘Do you shower with that on?… Do you ever take it off? Someone once asked, But how do you give birth?’

In an interview with Julia Zemiro on ABC’s Home Delivery in March, the prominent Australian-born Muslim revealed she was ‘terrified’ to tell loved ones about her decision to convert to Islam at 19.

‘I was terrified, absolutely terrified about telling people. My family, my mum in particular. And my friends,’ she said.

‘I assumed they would react negatively, and most people did.’ 

Susan tied the knot with Waleed in 2002, after the pair first locked eyes on each other at the ripe old age of 16. 

The couple share two children, daughter Aisha, 14, and son Zayd, 10, who Waleed has previously boasted about being ‘high achievers’.
