Walkers duo ‘cut open farmer’s fence to let calves loose’

Dog walkers allegedly cut open a farmer’s fence to let loose his calves – with a note saying he would ‘pay the price’ for confronting them over where they walked.

Richard Felce, 24, was searching for calves missing from his farm in Elham, Kent, when he discovered somebody had cut through his barbed wire fence.

Pinned to the fence was the letter from a mystery ‘gentleman and his partner’ bragging about what they had done and telling poor Mr Felce to ‘enjoy the chase’.

The abusive letter read: ‘Talk to me like a c**t when I am walking my dogs and you will pay the price. Let’s see if your cows stick to the footpath.

‘For years we have walked these fields having been given permission by the old man who used to drive wheat.

‘But times change; enjoy the chase you c**t. Regards, a gentleman and his partner.’

The 24-year-old believes the duo have held their grudge for a while as it was months ago that he last confronted people for walking on his land.

Mr Felce, from Hythe, in Kent said: ‘It is frustrating that people have these attitudes that could potentially put animals in danger.

‘It is confusing because we haven’t had any confrontation from any walkers for quite some time. I can’t really understand why somebody would do this.

‘It might be somebody who has been holding a grudge for quite a long time. I don’t know why they have sent it. We have never had a note before.’

After putting the calves back into the field Richard decided to also leave a note on the fence with his number in the hopes that the issue could be resolved.

Richard’s more polite letter said: ‘To the “gentleman” who cut the fence I am somewhat confused by your actions.

‘If you would like to talk about the issue like adults feel free to give me a call.’

Mr Felce, who farms sheep, cattle and crops, said: ‘I was shocked when I first found it, I don’t know why they did it. After a while I found it a bit amusing and now I’m just confused really.

‘A lot of people have been really shocked at this letter and angry about it.. There has been quite a bit reaction to it.

‘I have dealt with this my whole life, someone who leaves notes instead of talking about it isn’t someone to worry about in terms of how they deal with confrontation.’
