Warner Brothers could launch its own online movie streaming service in Australia, giving households access to new movies as soon as two weeks from their cinema release.
Unlike monthly-paid subscription services like Netflix and Stan, which stream TV series’ and older movies, Warner Brothers would offer new movies straight away using a pay-as-you-go system.
Linius Technologies, an ASX listed company, announced it had signed a deal with Warner Brothers to pilot its new ‘Transactional Video On Demand’ technology in Australia, Business Insider reports.

Australians would no longer need to rush to the cinema or wait months to watch new films when they come out – but they could be looking at forking out $50 for just 48 hour access.
The fee defies the current 90-day window studios must wait before offering home releases, and would still offer movie theatre chains a cut of movie profits.
The technology is set to be trialed this quarter to determine whether the service could be commercialised for the Australian entertainment giant.
Through its ‘Video Virtualization Engine’, Linuis’s system allows it to track who uses and pays for a video, and to gather information to help in anti-piracy, personalised advertising, security and video searching.
While access to new releases comes at a steep price compared to subscription services, which start at $10 per month, for some it would present a more affordable option than a family trip to the cinema.
With an average movie ticket in Australia costing about $20, an at-home viewing for a family of four for $50 would seem an attractive alternative.
