A Washington state sheriff’s deputy has been fired after photos emerged of her wearing clothing with a logo that is affiliated with a far-right political group.
Erin Willey was fired from the Clark County Sheriff’s Office last Tuesday after they were made aware of the photos of her dressed in a Proud Boys sweatshirt and singlet.
The Proud Boys group is known for its white nationalist and misogynistic rhetoric.
One photo shows Willey wearing a black singlet with an image of a lipstick and knife dripping in blood on it.

It also had the letters ‘PBG’ emblazoned across it, which reportedly stands for Proud Boys’ Girls.
The sheriff’s department would not specify the reasoning behind Willey’s firing, but The Columbian reports that it was a result of the photo.
‘Law enforcement officers are peacekeepers whose core mission is to protect and safeguard the community,’ Clark County Sheriff Chuck Atkins said in a statement.
‘My expectation is that my employees do not engage in activities or associations that undermine or diminish our role as peacekeepers.’

Deputy Willey had served on the force for a year after being hired in May 2017.
While the Proud Boys group denies being white nationalists, the Southern Poverty Law Center says they are a designated hate group ‘known for anti-Muslim and misogynistic rhetoric’.
‘Their disavowals of bigotry are belied by their actions: rank-and-file Proud Boys and leaders regularly spout white nationalist memes and maintain affiliations with known extremists,’ the center says.
‘Proud Boys have appeared alongside other hate groups at extremist gatherings like the ‘Unite the Right’ rally in Charlottesville.’
Proud Boys was started by Vice Media co-founder Gavin McInnes in 2016. McInnes left Vice in 2008 to contribute to far-right websites.
