Watch Aussie cricket paceman sustain bizarre injury while celebrating two quick wickets with team-mates

  • Jhye Richardson has been hugely unlucky with injuries in recent years
  • The fast bowler returned to First Class cricket for the first time in a year
  • He took two wickets in successive balls before sustaining the bizarre injury

A bizarre moment unfolded at the Adelaide Oval on Sunday as Aussie pace bowler Jhye Richardson appeared to suffer an injury as he celebrated claiming a wicket.

The 28-year-old has been cursed by injuries over the years, with the Western Australia star having not played First Class cricket in over a year.

The fast bowler has not featured in WA’s first four games of the Sheffield Shield season following a hamstring injury that has kept him sidelined in the run-up to this summer.

Back in 2019, the paceman admitted he had been left shattered at having to rule himself out of the Cricket World Cup due to a dislocated shoulder.

He had undergone surgery on that shoulder injury back in 2020 and subsequently went on to miss the 2023 World Cup too, due to injury.

In what was a rather sensational return to First Class cricket, Richardson would dismiss Conor McInerney and Daniel Drew in consecutive deliveries.

Jhye Richardson marked his return to Fist Class cricket by taking two wickets in successive balls

But as he celebrated the wicket, he appeared to hurt his shoulder after giving a team-mate a high-five

After clinching the second wicket, the 28-year-old steamed off towards his team-mates, jubilated by his exploits.

But as he appeared to high-five the group of slips running to celebrate him, he bizarrely seemed to sustain an injury to his shoulder.

He was seen hunkering down and clutching the top of his right arm before leaving the field with a medic.

Thankfully, the WA pace bowler would return to the field to dismiss Thomas Kelly in the 12th over.

Richardson has played three Tests for Australia, 15 ODIs and 18 T20Is having been awarded a contract by Cricket Australia for the 2024-25 season.

After South Australia elected to field first WA came oout tose the pace with a solid score of 373.

Jayden Goodwin was the standout, hitting 139 runs off 272, while captain Ashton Turner got WA’s next best score of 79.

At the close of play on Day Two South Australia trailed the visitors by 234 runs, having posted a second innings score of 139-4.
