Watch bodycam footage of Cleveland Cavaliers chief Koby Altman struggling with police sobriety tests before being arrested for impaired driving, denying a breath test

Cleveland Cavaliers president Koby Altman appeared to have struggled with police sobriety tests before facing arrest for impaired driving in bodycam footage released by Ohio State Highway Patrol this week.

Police ordered Altman, who was hired by the Cavs in 2012, to pull over in Cleveland at around 9 p.m. on Friday – just a day before his 41st birthday – after witnessing his white 2022 Lexus commit a marked lanes violation.

And while being pulled over, troopers told Altman that he was close to causing an accident. 

Video shows Altman trying to successfully pass the walk-and-turn, one-leg stand and eye tests and at one point even claims that the officers are messing up his concentration due to their explanations of what he needs to do.

Altman also revealed to cops that he was an exec with the Cavaliers and said he was tired after returning to the US from a trip abroad and a lengthy dinner earlier in the night, admitting to having a few drinks.

When officers asked Altman to submit a breath alcohol test, he declined before being put into handcuffs. 

Altman ended up being charged with committing a marked lanes violation and operating a vehicle while impaired, considered as an ‘OVI’ in Ohio.

On Tuesday, reports said that Altman ‘pled not guilty’ in municipal court in Cleveland, adding that the NBA executive admitted to not knowing how fast he was going. He also apologized for his actions. 

Altman was employed as the director of pro personnel for the Cavs when LeBron James guided the team to an NBA title in 2016.

He proceeded to be hired as Cleveland’s general manager just a year later. He was the one who drafted stars of today, like Darius Garland and Evan Mobley.

Altman was promoted to president of basketball operations in 2022. He finished second in NBA Executive of the Year voting last season. 

In 2022, the team signed him to a contract extension through the 2027-28 season.

The Cavs are aware of Altman’s OVI arrest and are cooperating with local officials and NBA execs to gather more information.
