Watch moment reckless driver attempts to overtake tractor on blind corner forcing oncoming car onto grass verge to avoid head-on collision along busy country road

  • The motorist nearly caused a high-speed head-on crash along the B4348
  • The driver of the recording car gasped as they cut their speed and drove off road

This is the moment a reckless driver attempted to overtake a tractor on a blind corner, forcing the oncoming car onto the grass verge to avoid a head-on crash.

The driver of a silver Toyota Yaris, on the B4348 on Herefordshire, pulled into the opposite lane behind another car which was attempting to overtake a tractor on a blind corner.

But there was not enough room for the Yaris to re-enter its lane.

The driver nearly caused a high-speed head-on head crash with the car that was filming, as they stayed in the wrong lane while continuing to pass the tractor.

Reacting quickly, the driver of the recording car could be heard gasping as they cut their speed and drove off the road to let the Yaris pass.

Andrew Crosby, who was driving the recording vehicle, said: ‘I’m baffled as to how anyone could be stupid enough to take such a risk.

‘I was lucky I was able to scrub enough speed to give me the option of running on to the verge to avoid a collision.’

Two other drivers behind the tractor did not attempt to pass on the blind corner.

Police were not called to attend the incident on August 29 this year, and there were no injuries or damage to the vehicles.

Bryn Brooker, Head of Road Safety at Nextbase, where the dash cam was from, said: ‘This could have been a tragic incident had it not been for the quick thinking and reaction times of the driver.

‘This incident proves the need for consistent education and re-education on road safety and the Highway Code.

‘Dash cams are also needed to help look out for incidents of reckless driving such as this — so when an accident is caused by another driver’s recklessness, it’s clear that you aren’t at fault.

‘This can save thousands of pounds in retained no-claims bonuses.’
