DATING PAST
My two longest relationships both lasted a year, and that was more than five years ago. Since then I’ve had, like clockwork, relationships that last three months but with all the optimistic intensity of someone about to get married.
I’m happy to date but I don’t want to settle down until I’m 30. I find that most of my generation don’t really believe in the notion of what a marriage contract represents.
PRE-DATE NERVES?
No. Why? I’m going into this experience with the attitude that my match is lucky to meet me.

FIRST IMPRESSIONS?
Jay sounded nerdy on his profile – he said he loves video games and graphic novels – so I knew I would like him. Physically, he’s a good-looking guy for his age; tall, well-dressed and looks far younger than his mid-30s. You’d introduce him to your family. He also wore purple and it’s my favourite colour. You don’t see it often on guys.
He’s a good-looking nerd you’d introduce to your whole family
EASY TO TALK TO?
He’s a doting uncle to his niece and I adore my nephew – we swapped babysitting stories. We also talked about music and how open we are to new experiences. As a chef, I wanted to know how the delicious caramel sauce on our dessert was made, which prompted a Bonnie and Clyde moment. I got a second helping, and decanted it into a glass while Jay took a selfie to distract the staff. I popped it in my bag.
EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?
Nothing embarrassing – no.

DID SPARKS FLY?
Jay is physically attractive, and I feel like there was chemistry. But I’m someone who can make friends and get along with anyone and he is the same. So we need to see one another again to find out if the vibe really is there.
SEE HIM AGAIN?
Yes – we live a ten-minute walk from one another. After the restaurant we got the train together, listening to music on my earphones. We then had a few drinks at our local pub… if I hadn’t had plans that evening I’d have happily continued the night with Jay.
WHAT DO YOU THINK HE THOUGHT OF YOU?
That I’m one of the most amazing and creative human beings on the planet.

WOULD YOUR FRIENDS LIKE HIM?
Yes, some of them would definitely. He’s the good guy you want with you when you’re out because he’ll quietly look out for everyone.
Jay
DATING PAST
I’ve had one long-term girlfriend, but we split up on good terms after it became apparent I wanted to settle down and eventually have children, but she didn’t. We’re still friends, though. I haven’t dated this year, due to my new job.
When asked if he would see her again, Jay said: Definitely, 100 per cent. We went on to a pub, but she was going out later and I was babysitting my niece the following day so we parted ways after a nice hug
PRE-DATE NERVES?
Yes, but I was happy to admit ‘I’m nervous’ — it’s a good conversation starter. Do I introduce myself as Junior or Jay though? I was christened Junior but now in my late 30s, being called this at work isn’t great, so I go by Jay.
FIRST IMPRESSIONS?
Nabilah is beautiful – her lovely hair was the first thing I saw. She turned around with a huge smile and just seemed very cool with a wonderful energy. I want to say I complimented her, but can’t for sure say I did because of nerves.
EASY TO TALK TO?
Yes, we discovered we love the same things. Everything from the colour purple to the same festivals. I told her I’m a bit of a nerd and really into Marvel comic books, while she loves the fantasy genre. We found we live close to one another and that our social circles have even crossed, too.
It feels like we were meant to meet… thank you, Blind Date
EMBARRASSING MOMENTS?
Nabilah took a glass — whoops. But it was in the name of research because she wanted to figure out how the delicious sauce we had with our dessert was made. But it wasn’t really embarrassing, more funny, I was totally fine with it.
DID SPARKS FLY?
I hope so. Nabilah is a cool and interesting person with a positive spirit. Also, she’s quite hot.

WHAT DO YOU THINK SHE THOUGHT OF YOU?
I think Nabilah liked me. We have similar interests — we’re into the same music and have been to the same festivals. After we exchanged Instagram accounts, I discovered some of my friends follow her. Our paths were bound to cross at some point but Blind Date brought us together.
WOULD YOUR FAMILY LIKE HER?
Yes, and I can say that with certainty as she has met a few of them before. It’s very serendipitous that we were matched.
Nabilah’s Verdict: 8/10
