Watford weighing up a potential move for Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac next month

Watford ‘looking at’ January move for Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac who’s heading into the final six months of his contract at the Emirates

  • Sead Kolasinac has started just one Premier League game for Arsenal in 2021-22
  • The 27-year-old’s contract at the Emirates is set to expire at the end of the season
  • Watford could try to sign him in January as they attempt to bolster their defence

Watford are eyeing a January move for Arsenal defender Sead Kolasinac, according to reports.

Claudio Ranieri wants to strengthen his backline next month, with Watford having conceded 31 goals in their 16 top-flight matches so far this season.

With this in mind, the Hornets boss has identified Kolasinac as a potential target, as reported by The Telegraph.

Kolasinac has been at Arsenal since 2017, but has found it difficult to get minutes on the pitch for the team over the past 18 months.

He was sent out on loan to Schalke in January, and upon his return in the summer he has become even more of a peripheral figure at the Emirates Stadium.

The 27-year-old has started just one league game this season, and that came in Arsenal’s humbling 5-0 defeat by Manchester City back in August.

His contract is set to expire next summer, meaning January represents the final opportunity for the Gunners to get a fee for the Bosnia and Herzegovina international, rather than losing him for nothing at the end of the season.

It is understood that Kolasinac could be used as a centre-back at Vicarage Road, despite being largely deployed as a full-back at Arsenal in recent years.

He has played as part of a back three on numerous occasions, though, and that could be how Ranieri opts to get the best out of him if he can tempt the defender away from Arsenal at the start of 2022.

Watford have two scheduled fixtures before the transfer window opens, and they are set to return to action on Boxing Day when they travel to Molineux to take on Wolves.
