Torrential rain washed away the twisting footpath to Rhossili Bay on the Gower Peninsula which is among the top ten beaches in the world.
Tourists have been unable to reach the sandy shore after a huge hole opened up on the public walkway.
The path is used by thousands of visitors every year after the beach was named in the top ten in the world.
The National Trust and Swansea Council are now working to repair the damage as soon as possible.
A National Trust spokesman said: ‘The path to the beach has suffered due to the recent weather conditions.
‘The design of the footpath anticipates this type of erosion and we’ve worked with Swansea Council to construct the path out of easily replaceable materials.
‘This footpath to the beach at Rhossili, a Public Right of Way, is maintained by Swansea Council; they have been informed and we understand that they are planning to repair the damage.’

Rhossili Bay previously found fame when it appeared in the Opening Ceremony of the London 2012 Olympic Games and featured in Doctor Who.
Suitcase Magazine included it in a list of top ten beaches in the world – alongside beaches in Panama, Hawaii, Brazil and the Philippines.
