Wayne Rooney celebrates birthday by painting park benches

Wayne Rooney looks glum as he arrives at a commnunity centre to paint benches for drink driving – as pregnant wife Coleen tops up her tan on another sunshine holiday.

The former England captain seemed ‘fed up’ as he walked into a community centre in Macclesfield in the week of his 32nd birthday.

Rooney, who earns around £150,000 a week, was wearing a claret coloured track suit and new £70 white trainers as he walked in with his head down.

The star could not celebrate his birthday as he had to travel to London by train with Everton for their Carabao Cup match with Chelsea, boarding a train at 3.05pm at Runcorn and only arrived back home in the early hours this morning.

With the match finishing at around 9.40pm – a 2-1 loss – Rooney might have hoped to have been allowed a lie in at his £6million mansion in Prestbury, Cheshire.

But the law requires him to carry out 100 hours of unpaid work and that meant a breakfast time wake-up call and a chauffeured trip in a £60,000 Audi to the community centre for another session of routine maintenance tasks which began at 9.39am.

One onlooker said: ‘He got out of an Audi and just looked really miserable and shrugged when a staff member tried to talk to him.

‘The guy was shoveling mud into a wheel barrow and smoking a fag and tried to chat to Wayne, but he walked straight past him without stopping.’

Rooney, who is said to be battling to save his marriage to wife Coleen who is expecting their fourth child, was still wearing his wedding ring today despite Coleen removing hers.

Coleen, 31, has embarked on a holiday to Barbados with their sons Kai, Klay and Kit despite her husband’s birthday falling in the school half term.

It is her seventh holiday in ten months without her disgraced husband.

In addition to not wearing her £250,000 wedding band any more, she has not been seen at the side of the footballer since his arrest

If Rooney was looking for any signs of his wife’s anger thawing at his arrest and drink-driving conviction while ferrying home party girl Laura Simpson in her Beetle, he has been disappointed.

Coleen did send a birthday message from the Caribbean, but pointedly made it to be from their children.

Writing on Instagram, she wrote: ‘We love you so much Dad! Thank you for all that you do for us.’

Rooney caught drink-driving while alone with brunette Laura, who claimed they had ‘kissed and cuddled.’

He was driving her car when the vehicle was stopped in Wilmslow, Cheshire, at 2am on September 1.

Police flagged down the blue Beetle because of a faulty tail light and discovered Rooney was behind the wheel with Laura beside him.

He was arrested and kept in a police cell overnight after he failed a breath test which showed he had 104mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath with the legal limit being 35mcg.

Rooney, who owns a fleet of luxury cars, was also banned from driving for two years.

But he also faced the wrath of Coleen who flew back from Spain with their children to confront him over his arrest and why he was with Laura.

His wife was on holiday in Spain and after hurrying back to Britain to confront him she reportedly screamed at him: ‘The world is laughing at me because of you. How could you do this to me while I’m pregnant? How could you be so stupid?’

Laura claimed she would have had sex with the Everton footballer if he hadn’t been pulled over by police and said the arrest ‘spoiled the night’.

The £40,000-a-year sales manager said she met the footballer when he complimented her 32E breasts during a 10-hour drinking session and claimed the pair had ‘kissed and cuddled.’

Rooney pleaded guilty on September 18 at Stockport Magistrates Court to drink driving and was sentenced 100 hours unpaid work.

He was also told to pay £85 prosecution costs and a victim surcharge for the same amount.
