Wayne Rooney splashes out £750,000 on charity donation

He is preparing to spend Christmas with Coleen and their kids as he works on rebuilding his marriage to his pregnant wife.

And Wayne Rooney put his martial woes behind him as he pledged a generous £750,000 charity donation, made up of three separate cheques worth £250,000.

The Everton footballer, 32, handed them out to Claire House, Merseyside’s Alder Hey children’s hospital and the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to children.

‘My heart goes out to those affected’: Wayne Rooney splashed out on generous £750,000 charity donation ahead of Xmas

On Friday, the footballer made visits to Alder Hey Children’s Hospital in Liverpool in the good company of Sam Allardyce and the Everton squad.

The charitable cause was brought close to home when his wife Coleen’s sister Rosie died at the tender age of 14 from a rare brain condition back in 2013.

In a statement, the striker said: ‘There are moments in life that instantly affect you and stop you in your tracks. Monday night was one of those occasions. Like so many others, I have enjoyed great nights at the arena, often with my family.

‘As a father, I am horrified that a night out for so many young people could end so tragically. My heart goes out all those affected. Please give whatever you can.’

His public appearance came after his high-profile marriage was reportedly on the rocks following a wild night out in September.

The embarrassing incident saw the Everton star arrested for drink driving when he was behind the wheel of party girl Laura’s car.

Since then Coleen and Wayne have reconciled their relationship as the mother claims to be working on their marriage despite the ‘s**t’ situation’.

Insisting she is a ‘strong person’ and doesn’t need people to feel sorry for her, Coleen set the record straight once and for all about her marriage.

The WAG explained: ‘A few people are probably thinking am stupid for staying in my marriage. I am not stupid, I know my mind and it’s something I want to try and work on. No, I’m not taking Wayne back as he’s never left. Yes, it has been a s**t time, and yes, time was spent apart and I thought my marriage might have been at an end. I’m not going to list Wayne’s good qualities as a person as I don’t think he deserves it at this time but one thing is that he is a brilliant dad.

‘He’s made silly and selfish mistakes, some he’s learnt from, some obviously not. However maybe that will change? In life, you don’t know what’s going to happen tomorrow.’

Referencing the night of Wayne’s arrest for drink driving, the glamorous WAG appeared to blame the influence of alcohol for his behaviour.

Wayne and Coleen, who are expected to welcome their fourth child in early 2018, have been together since they were both 16 and they went onto marry in 2008.

The pair are set to renew their vows in the new year, according to a report following their reconciliation.

According to The Sun, the couple are planning to reaffirm their love in their favourite holiday hot spot Barbados as Coleen knows ‘deep down’ she has forgiven him.

A source told the paper: ‘To say it’s been a rough ride for both of them in recent months is an understatement. But we’ve been told they plan to renew their wedding vows next summer – maybe in Barbados.

‘We were astonished as Coleen is no fool and a pretty tough cookie. He is just relieved to have another chance.’
