Wayne Rooney sports wedding ring while out in Manchester

He hurtled into headlines when he was pulled over for drink-driving after enjoying a night out with party girl Laura Simpson in August.

Yet Wayne Rooney continued to sport his wedding ring undoubtedly in a bid to patch things up with his pregnant wife Coleen – despite her recent appearances without her own ring – when he arrived to a hotel to sign shirts for charity on Friday.

The striker, 31, was seen outside the five-star Lowry Hotel in Manchester just 24 hours after spending an evening with his seven-year-old son, Kai, and father-in-law, Tony McLoughlin, in a possible hint at a positive move with his wife.

The England player will have come close to brushing shoulders with his former Manchester United teammates as Jose Mourinho’s squad checked into the same hotel just 30 minutes later.

Wayne, who also shares Klay, four, and 22-month-old Kit with his wife, smiled somewhat sheepishly as he walked up to the hotel’s entrance – perhaps a sign that he and his wife are finally working things out.

His outings come after Coleen, also 31, confirmed she will take the kids on holiday for half-term after her difficult two months, during which she has been frequently spotted without her wedding ring.

Wayne was caught drink driving in Cheshire, with fellow party-goer Laura in the passenger seat as he drove her Beetle back from a club after she claimed they ‘kissed and cuddled’.

Last month, the legendary footballer pleaded guilty to driving while over the limit before embarking on 100 hours unpaid work. He has been defiantly keeping his wedding ring in place despite Coleen’s frequent appearances without her own band.

As he made his low-key appearance in the stands at the match against Olympique Lyon at Goodison Park Stadium, Liverpool, on Thursday he crossed his arms while chatting to agent Paul Stretford alongside his sweet eldest son.

Beside Paul was Tony, who enjoys an incredibly close bond with his daughter and grandsons – so much so, Coleen spent much of her time in the wake of Wayne’s scandal residing at her parents’ home.

His presence could speak volumes for the state of the couple’s relationship, yet Tony’s closeness to his grandchildren could imply he was merely joining Kai.

Earlier in the day, Coleen took to Twitter to respond to news she was jetting on holiday as she penned: ‘7th Holiday??? ….. I thought it was more than that!! Half term with the kids…. hope you all enjoy yours & make lots of fun memories’.

She previously hinted she is focusing on the arrival of her fourth child after ‘ditching’ her wedding band following marital strife with his scandalous arrest in late August.

As she continues to shed her wedding ring, the star confirmed she is planning a holiday – despite claims last month that Wayne blamed her constant holidaying on his boozing and insisted she must cut down.

At the time of his arrest, it was reported she flew back from Spain with their three children and reportedly screamed at him: ‘The world is laughing at me because of you. How could you do this to me while I’m pregnant? How could you be so stupid?’

She is said to be flying to the family’s beloved Sandy Lane Hotel in Barbados in the midst of her personal woes. Speaking to The Sun, an insider revealed Coleen is ‘still very angry’ but feels she and her boys should not be punished by his actions and still plans to head off for her seventh holiday in ten months.

Now it seems she is ready to jet away once more, as insiders said: ‘She is still very angry at Wayne. But she doesn’t see why she or the children should suffer. She doesn’t really want to leave Wayne at home as she feels like she can’t trust him.

“But she doesn’t really want to go on holiday with him either. It’s one of the most exclusive in the world and they are looking forward to it.

Laura, from Irlam, Greater Manchester, said that she would have had sex with the footballer if they had not been stopped by police.

The lettings agent worker, 29, said the pair had ‘kissed and cuddled’ and she would have ‘s******’ him if he had not been pulled over by the police. A source told The Sun that he issued the promise to go teetotal if his wife reduces her number of holidays.
