Coleen Rooney has revealed how her husband Wayne’s bizarre sleeping habit once started a bedroom fire.
Coleen and Wayne, both 38, are childhood sweethearts who met at school before tying the knot in 2008.
Having been together for over two decades and married for almost 17 years, the couple are fully aware of each other’s quirks, and Coleen has now opened up on the time that one of Wayne’s landed them in a spot of bother.
The media personality, who finished runner-up on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! last month, stated how Wayne likes to sleep with a hairdryer on to keep him cool, but this came back to haunt them on one particular night.
Speaking on the Stick to Football podcast, brought to you by Sky Bet, Coleen explained: ‘It’s a fan when I’m in the bed, but if not, it is a hairdryer. If I get up, if he’s still in bed I hear him get a hairdryer.
‘Has he told you that it’s caught on fire before? The hairdryer is on cool, but one time he was cold, so it turned it to hot – and it blew up!’

Coleen also revealed that Wayne proposed to her at a petrol station
Fortunately, the couple were able to put the fire out, and Coleen is able to look back at the incident and smile.
The couple now have four sons together; Kai, Klay, Kit and Cass.
But before having children came Wayne’s proposal, and, somewhat unsurprisingly, he did it in unorthodox fashion.
Coleen set the scene on the Stick to Football podcast, as she revealed that the former Manchester United and England superstar got down on one knee at a petrol station.
‘We were only 17, and we were going for a Chinese,’ she began. ‘I can’t remember whether we were arguing or something, but I said that I didn’t want to go for Chinese.
‘So, we stopped at the petrol station, then he went in, came out, [got down on one knee] and said “I was going to ask you when we were at the Chinese” – now I’m glad he never asked me when we were out for a Chinese!
‘Then we went back to my mum’s and had corned beef hash. He’s not very good at keeping secrets, so I knew it was going to happen – I didn’t think it would be then.’
It may have been an unusual proposal but it did the trick as Coleen said ‘yes’.
They got married on June 12, 2008 in Portofino, Italy in a wedding attended by several of Wayne’s United team-mates at the time, including Michael Carrick, Wes Brown and John O’Shea.
Over 16 years later, they remain together, with Coleen still putting up with Wayne’s odd bedtime routine.
