The Spaniard, who decided to step down from his previous jobs at Barcelona and Bayern Munich, responded claiming the success of his sides on the field was the reason he had avoided being sacked.

‘I will tell you a secret, we win games,’ Guardiola said.

‘If we don’t win games, I would be sacked.

‘It’s not because my hair is better than the other ones.

‘I’m not sacked because we win a lot of games.’

Four Premier League seasons had seen 10 managers lose their jobs, but the sackings of Rodgers and Potter has seen a new high of 12 this campaign.

Guardiola claimed the high investment into Premier League clubs may be responsible for the increase.

‘In this country when I was younger it always had the tradition to keep the managers,’ Guardiola said.

‘What happens today with a lot of pressure for everyone, a lot of investment, in a way I understand there’s a lot of pressure.

‘Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. It is what it is, you have to adapt.’
