Would you wear this dress to a wedding? Guest slammed online by critics who say her white frock is an ‘attention-seeking’ and ‘rude’ choice
- A woman has been criticised for buying a white dress to wear to a wedding
- Her dress, which was $89 from City Chic, was entirely white with flowers on it
- Many have slammed her decision while others say the rule is ‘over the top’
An anonymous wedding guest has been criticised for buying a white floral applique dress for $89 and wearing it to a wedding.
Her dress and comments were shared in a wedding shaming Facebook group by another member, who said she found the motives behind the choice of colour ‘questionable’.
‘Look I am not super OCD about the white dress thing, my husband’s nana wore white to my wedding, but I find all of this so questionable. It’s pretty well accepted that this is rude,’ the original poster wrote.

‘I have a wedding to attend and fell in love with a really nice dress but it’s white,’ the guest said in a text.
‘It was also on sale for $89 with another 20 per cent off’.
Almost instantly other members in the group began criticising the woman’s decision.
‘I mean “wearing white” is one thing but this looks like a wedding dress. Not okay,’ one person said.
‘It’s terribly rude to even consider wearing white to a wedding if it’s not asked of the guests. White is for the bride. Girls are so weird about letting another woman shine when it’s their day. Just pick a different colour. It isn’t hard,’ another said.

A third added: ‘Wearing white to someone’s wedding just screams that you’re desperate for attention.’
Others said there was nothing wrong with wearing a white dress to a wedding as long as the bride is okay with it.
‘Ask the bride. I wouldn’t care if someone wore white to my wedding but other people may find it rude,’ one wrote.
‘It’s the most ridiculous rule. No way does a regular dress look like a wedding dress/gown. And no way is a basic Jane with a white dress “taking away attention away from the bride”.’
