Weddings can be stressful at the best of times – but one event planner has been left outraged after a vendor failed to turn up for a terminally-ill bride’s reception.
According to the planner, she had organized the reception for a bride with terminal cancer, however, after confirming they will be at the reception they ‘fully ghosted’ the couple.
To make matters worse, the catering was a donation as apart of the Wish Upon A Wedding program – a national nonprofit that grants weddings and vow renewals to couples facing terminal illness or life-altering health circumstances.
‘Which means it doesn’t even make sense to scam,’ she explained in a Reddit post shared to the Wedding Shaming subreddit.
The planner assured Reddit users that a restaurant in the Eastern Virginia area stepped up to cater the event, but some guests did leave after not receiving any liquids for two hours.
‘I feel so bad, I did all I could. But this was supposed to be such a beautiful day, a true gift to a couple faced with unimaginable hardship,’ she wrote.
The wedding planner explained she had taken over this event 10 days before the wedding, as the original planner and the couple didn’t get along.
‘There was a lot of nastiness,’ she admitted. ‘The lead planner yelled at the terminal cancer patient.’

‘I’m so upset by that, and it’s for the best she was fired. I am glad I stepped in, because the couple loved me, but I inherited A LOT of work. I felt like I had nearly an entire wedding to plan in a week,’ she added.
The planner later updated her post to explain she had given the catering company a chance to explain themselves – but they couldn’t.
‘The original caterer blocked me on all accounts,’ she wrote, outraged.
‘She blocked the bride on all accounts. Her website no longer works. I don’t even know how I could review her if I wanted to,’ the exasperated planner listed.
‘All I did was email her to ask her if she was okay and what happened that she didn’t show up.
‘I definitely did NOT come in guns-a-blazing, I truly gave her a chance to explain herself. I’m shook,’ she wrote.
The planner responded to people suggesting the planner and caterer were in cahoots, assuring them that wasn’t the case.
‘I know the planner personally and while she was negligent and mean to the cancer patient, she is not nefarious,’ she argued.
The planner added it was the first wedding the old planner had done by herself, and she had very few connections and hadn’t had enough time to build loyalty with another caterer.
Still, no one at the wedding had ever seen anything like it.

Users were outraged by the story, sharing their thoughts in the comments
‘I asked the other vendors if they had seen anything like this before. Combined, they had over 100 years of wedding experience. Not a single one of them have seen a caterer no-show,’ she claimed.
‘The original planner threw me under the bus also to Wish Upon a Wedding. I called them, ready to show them the proof, and they believed me,’ she wrote in a final update to the post.
‘So relieved! I love this organization and want to do this again!’
Users were outraged by the story, sharing their thoughts in the comments.
‘There is nothing lower than ruining the wedding of a terminal cancer patient. You have to have some nerve to even think of doing something like that. I’m glad you were able to find someone to step in, and that restaurant deserves all the extra business they get!’ one user gushed.
‘There is something seriously wrong with the original planner if she actually yelled at a terminal cancer patient. I’m sure there are plenty of times planners want to yell at clients but they don’t. I seriously think that the planner and caterer were in cahoots. Can you have a local TV news investigate? Does the caterer have good reviews?’ asked another.
‘I am sorry for you and the bride and groom as well as the guests. Karma will hit the nasty caterer eventually.’
