West Ham United are closing on a £38million deal for Ajax midfielder Mohammed Kudus after a breakthrough in negotiations.

A five-year contract has been offered to the 23-year-old while the deal will also include a ten percent sell-on.

West Ham are also continuing talks over a loan with option to buy Sevilla striker Youssef En Nesyri.

The Moroccan is one of a number of options being pursued but none are close to agreement.

West Ham had seen two previous bids rebuffed for Kudus, but Ajax are now expected to accept their latest offer of £35million, with a further £2.5m in add ons.

West Ham’s technical director Tim Steidten had flown to Amsterdam last Thursday for talks with Ajax officials.

The Premier League side saw an initial offer turned down, with their second bid of £36m also having been rejected.

A deal is now close which could see Kudus become West Ham’s fourth signing of the transfer window.

Defender Konstantinos Mavropanos joined from Stuttgart for £18million on Tuesday.

His arrival followed the additions of Edson Alvarez and James Ward-Prowse.

Kudus finished last season top of Ajax’s scoring charts in all competitions, netting 18 times in 42 games as the club finished third behind PSV and Feyenoord in the Dutch top flight.

The 33-year-old has played in Ajax’s opening two matches of the Eredivisie season.

He scored in Ajax’s 4-1 win over Heracles and provided an assist in their 2-2 draw against Excelsior.

Kudus’ current contract at the Johan Cruyff Arena is due to expire in 2025, and he rejected the offer of a one-year extension by the club in April.
