Two-time winners West Indies face the ignominy of not qualifying for this year’s World Cup after a shock loss to the Netherlands in Harare on Monday.
The Dutch recorded the fourth highest second innings score in one-day international history to tie the group match but then Logan van Beek – who was caught by Jason Holder from the final delivery – smashed 30 off the super over to leave the Windies reeling.
Holder was the bowler on the receiving end of the incredible assault, the most runs ever recorded in a one-over eliminator, and Van Beek then took two wickets in defence of the score.
West Indies appeared in control of things after following a score of 374 for six with four wickets inside 30 overs of the Dutch chase.
But centurion Teja Nidamanuru and his captain Scott Edwards added 143 for the fifth wicket before van Beek’s late show of 28 off 14 balls saw the associate nation to 374 for nine.

Van Beek then smashed consecutive deliveries of Holder for 4, 6, 4, 6, 6, 4 and the result means Shai Hope’s team are now relying on favours from others to make it to India for the World Cup proper this autumn.
