West Tigers coach Benji Marshall’s wife Zoe responds to ‘bizarre’ rumours about her husband’s work ethic after he spoke about prioritising his family

Benji Marshall’s wife Zoe has responded to recent controversy over her husband’s work ethic as the West Tigers coach.

Rumours that Benji wasn’t pulling his weight at the rugby league club circulated in March, but he hit back and insisted he is the ‘first in the building’ before training every day.

He told how he ‘prioritises his family between 5-8pm every night to find a ‘work life balance’, with Wests Tigers boss Shane Richardson saying his commitment to his job and his family should be admired.

Now, his wife Zoe, 39, has weighed in on the issue as she described his devotedness to their family as the ‘hottest thing’ and brushed off the controversy as ‘bizarre’.

She told the Daily Telegraph: ‘He was this poster boy for working dads. It’s strange for somebody to work an 11-hour day and then be berated for existing and feeding the family unit – because what is the expectation?’

‘How do you think he’s going to be the best coach he can be if he’s not joyful or fulfilled or connected? It’s bananas,’ she added.

Zoe and Benji, who tied the knot in 2013, share two children together – a son Benjamin Fox, five, and daughter Ever J, two.

West Tigers boss Shane recently told how Benji’s devotion to his family should be admired as he showed his support for his colleague.

‘Because [Benji] doesn’t work 14 hours a day and wants he and his players to have a family life, it’s a good thing not a bad thing,’ he said.

‘I wish I had learnt that 20 years earlier. It would have saved me a lot of grief in my own personal life.

‘What he’s trying to do is instill a balance between life and work and I think he’s got it.’

Zoe and Benji’s 11-year marriage has seen the pair move interstate and abroad with their two children.

The rugby league WAG said she is proud the couple have managed to maintain such a strong relationship over the years.

Zoe and Benji walked down the aisle for a second time last year when they renewed their vows at home, surrounded by family and friends.

While she was pregnant with their daughter Ever, Zoe admitted the couple had split up three times before tying the knot in 2013.

The family recently moved into a new $4.75million family home in Sydney.
