A Fire and Rescue spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the commotion was the result of an oil and dust fire under the escalator.

‘The left mechanic is currently on the scene and three levels of the east building were evacuated this morning,’ she said.

The building has since been ventilated and the firemen handed the job back over to Westfield management before the centre was opened about 11am.
