Westworld star Ed Harris and Field of Dreams actress Amy Madigan celebrate 40 years of marriage

Ed Harris and wife Amy Madigan, who married in 1983, marked 40 years of marriage on November 21.

The 73-year-old Westworld actor and Field of Dreams star, also 73, tied the knot while starring in the movie Places in the Heart.

According to People, Madigan knew when she first saw Ed in 1980, acting in the play Cowboy, she knew there was something special about him.

The actress told Life magazine in 1985, ‘It was like something you see in a movie or hear in a song. I just thought—”Well, there he is.” It was obvious to me that I’d see him again.’

Since solidifying their union, the two have continued to work together onscreen and on the stage.

The repertoire built throughout their marriage includes nine movies and various Broadway shows.

Per People, in 1985, the Stepmom actor told the Chicago Tribune about working alongside his wife: ‘The acting thing is so intimate and personal ‘If we’re not working together… you can’t really talk about your day very well. 

‘When you’re working together, though, there’s so much that is shared, so much unspoken thought and emotion that goes into the work, that it really draws you closer.’

And Madigan had to say about their romantic scenes, ‘The closeness of being married gives us the ability and the freedom to do those kinds of things. I mean, with another actor you’d have to spend a lot of time and energy getting to know them first.’

The duo are parents to a single child, daughter Lily Dolores Harris, now 30.

Harris has enjoyed an illustrious career, collecting four Oscar nominations, as well as an Emmy for his role in HBO’s sci-fi series Westworld.

Amy established herself as a Hollywood fixture after portraying Annie Kinsella in Field of Dreams in 1989. That year she also appeared in Uncle Buck.

She additionally had a starring role in the HBO show Carnivale.

The mother-of-one also earned an Emmy nomination for her part in the television film Roe vs. Wade, which came out in 1989 as well.

Madigan has had to correct a false narrative about her and her husband’s love story.

She said that people had often assumed they wed after having an affair on the set of their first movie.

In truth, they had been dating for two years before that. ‘It’s a nice Hollywood story, but it’s not true,’ she revealed to the Chicago Tribune.
