Psychedelic mushrooms or “magic mushrooms” are drugs with hallucinogen properties and were first discovered by Dr. Albert Hoftmann back in 1958.
Numerous cities and countries have decriminalized and legalized these psychedelic mushrooms as a supplement for psychotherapy. However, these shrooms are considered a Schedule I drug as stated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, which means that these are yet to be proven to have potential medical benefits. However, several researchers are currently pursuing clinical trials for this drug to gain the FDA’s approval.
How it works
The psilocybin from Malabar mushroom, for instance, is believed to cause the alteration in the serotonin levels of a person, leading to hallucinations which could take effect between 20 to 40 minutes and possibly last for 6 hours.
However, researchers from John Hopkins University suggested the reclassification of shrooms from Schedule I to Schedule IV in 2018. This is to pave the way for medicinal use after various studies disclosed that psilocybin could treat nicotine addiction, anxiety, depression, and many more.
Incentives of magic mushrooms
As we’ve mentioned, regardless of the FDA’s absence of approval, extensive investigations about the component of magic mushrooms have shown promising results for medical professionals.
Dissolves ego
In the 2017 study by Chris Letheby and Philip Gerrans entitled “Self unbound: ego dissolution in the psychedelic experience,” they found out that psychedelics, in general, dissolves our sense of a specific ego, where our conscious experience is let loose, which allows us to feel more connected and alive, along with a boost in our creativity.
Treat addictions
Amanda Feilding from The Beckley Foundation collaborated with John Hopkins University in 2008 to conduct a study about psilocybin-assisted psychotherapy for nicotine abuse.
The results were a breakthrough as magic mushrooms were found to be beneficial in untangling an individual’s unhealthy patterns like habit-forming drugs such as cocaine.
And with the additional support from the Heffter Research Institute, researchers have discovered that shrooms’ properties could even help people cease their smoking addiction!
Address depression
The Beckley Foundation continued its initial attempt to dig deeper about the offered possibilities of magic mushrooms. They were surprised to find out that shrooms can alleviate depression symptoms.
In other studies, a dose of this active ingredient could permanently treat depression itself due to the interaction of psilocybin and serotonin receptors within the brain, producing a wide range of consciousness-altering outcomes.
Methods for using shrooms
This drug comes in many forms and could be available depending on your preference.
Some would come in powdered form, which you could choose to either snort or inject into your system.
On the other hand, if you received this item in either dried or fresh form, you could decide to eat it by adding them to the food you’re cooking, steeping it into tea, or you could even add it as an ingredient for your fruit juice.
It’s crucial, though, that you order from a legitimate distributor of shrooms instead of opting to grow your own mushrooms, as this could land you a place in jail because it’s considered to be an illegal activity in many states.
