What has Big E been doing while recovering from a broken neck? The former WWE champion has an important scan coming up to determine the next steps in his recovery, but the company has kept him busy with a role outside of the ring

It’s nearly been a year since Big E suffered a broken neck during a match on SmackDown, but the popular superstar has kept himself busy behind the scenes in WWE.

The former WWE champion, who turns 37 next week, was seen helping out with WWE college tryouts last year ahead of SummerSlam and SportsMail can reveal he has stayed pretty busy ever since.

The New Day member has been helping out with WWE’s NIL outreach and has been doing college campus tours for the company.

That programme essentially provides a gateway for college athletes to sign with WWE. 

NIL stands for Next in Line in WWE, but it’s in reference to name, image and likeness in regards to NCAA athletes in America. In the simplest of terms, it means college athletes can get paid.

The highlight signees thus far is, of course, led by Olympic gold medallist Gable Steveson. WWE have also secured the Cavinder twins, Haley and Hanna. The company currently has 45 student-athletes signed

Crucially, in regards to Big E’s in-ring future, he has scans at the end of March to discover what the next steps of his recovery are and if he can make a return.

The voice behind the Power of Positivity had enjoyed his career apex just months before his terrible injury. After winning the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2021, Big E would cash-in and win the title in September. 

On New Year’s Day 2022 at Day 1, Big E would lost the title to Brock Lesnar in a fatal-four-way.

However, the New Day is still going strong. Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods are still teaming up and were recently the NXT Tag Team champions. 

Big E joined up with them again for a tour of Australia in January doing media to celebrate WWE’s new streaming home in the country, Binge.
