Mud and Magic Mike star Matthew McConaughey’s recent public outing has shocked fans who claim his appearance has ‘changed’.
Fans this week took to social media to fay the 54-year-old actor looked ‘different’ when he appeared with wife Camila Alves, 41, at a gala dinner last week.
Some speculated that his nose is a different shape and that his eyes have changed colour.
In fact, some have gone as far as saying it doesn’t look like him and that it is a ‘double’.
But a plastic surgeon suggest the Texas-born actor’s gaunt features are simply due to weight loss.

One social media user, @Scuba_duba_, posted on TikTok footage from the gala dinner and said that he looked ‘different’.
Commentators pointed to his eyes suggesting they were now brown, having been blue previously.
In another TikTok, posted by @1mothastucka, commenters said his nose has changed shape and some claimed he may have lost weight or taken the slimming jab Ozempic.
There was also speculation on social media site X with @darnelSugarfoo also asking ‘wtf happened’ to his face. One person even commented that he was a ‘double’.
Another social media user @MerrittKelly1 also posted on X that he ‘looked very thin and rather angry’. She added: ‘Wonder if he’s lost a bunch of weight for a role in a movie.’

But aesthetic doctors have a more logical explanation for his change in appearance than the actor being a ‘double’.
Mr Reza Nassab, a consultant plastic, and reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon in Manchester and Cheshire, suggests that rather than getting any face-altering plastic surgery he has just lost some weight.
‘Personally, I don’t believe that Matthew McConaughey has undergone rhinoplasty. I think the change in the size and shape of his nose could be attributed to weight loss, particularly in his face,’ he told MailOnline.
He explained that McConaughey’s gaunt cheeks and supposed change in nose shape could both be a result of losing fat.
‘When someone loses significant weight, the reduction in facial fat can make their features appear more defined and prominent, including the nose,’ he added.
‘This natural shift in appearance due to weight loss can often lead people to assume cosmetic procedures have taken place but in this case, the change in his face could easily be because of his weight loss.’
This isn’t the fist time McConaughey has radically changed his appearance.
After being sick of starring in only romantic comedies, McConaughey has claimed he took a two-year hiatus from Hollywood between 2010 and 2012 and almost quit the industry.
But he made a come back in his role as Ron Woodroof in Dallas Buyers Club in 2014, which saw him lose three stone for the Oscar-nominated film.
The actor who goes through great lengths to prepare for each role, admitted to Radio Times that he survived on an eating plan of Diet Coke, egg whites and a piece of chicken a day to slim down to a tiny 9.5 stone.
The weight-loss left his cheeks looking hollow, but he soon put the weight back on.

Although the actor has never said he takes Ozempic, some fans have suggested his change in appearance could be a result of the weight loss jab.
The flab-busting drug doesn’t discriminate which fat it targets.
That’s because the drugs mimic GLP-1, a hormone made naturally in the body that helps slow the passage of food through the stomach — which makes people feel less hungry.
This alters the brain’s appetite regulation, so that people feel satiated despite eating less and they also don’t experience cravings for treat foods.
As a result, people don’t eat as much and lose weight — but not just belly fat.
It can also remove fat from the face making many people look gaunt, colloquially known as ‘Ozempic face’.
This tell-tale sign can make people have sunken eyes, gaunt cheeks and saggy skin.
Since the fat in our face helps gives smooth plump cheeks and wrinkle free foreheads, rapidly losing it can also make people rapidly look much older.
Celebrities who have developed ‘Ozempic face’, either because they have taken such drugs or due to other weight loss methods, include Robbie Williams, Scott Disick and Sharon Osbourne.
