Michael Bay’s action-packed disaster film Armageddon is officially 25 years old!

The 1998 film follows driller Harry Stamper (Bruce Willis) who is recruited by NASA head Dan Truman (Billy Bob Thornton) to fly into space to detonate an asteroid that is hurdling towards Earth.

The driller gathers his best men which includes A.J. (Ben Affleck) who pursues a relationship with Harry’s daughter Grace (Liv Taylor) despite his protestations. 

Even though the film was one of the biggest blockbusters of the 90s, some of its stars have made it clear that they weren’t fans of the film.

Willis has claimed the film ‘didn’t work’ and vowed to never work with Bay again.

Meanwhile, Affleck has publicly pointed out aspects of the films that he felt didn’t make sense.

Even still, the film helped boost all of these actors’ careers who continued to book some of Hollywood’s biggest films over the years.

This doesn’t mean life has been all rosy for these A-listers.

Recently Willis received a diagnosis of aphasia, which eventually evolved into frontotemporal degeneration dementia, and was forced to retire from acting.

Affleck saw himself in and out of rehab three times over the course of the years for his alcoholism.

Tyler experienced heartbreak twice after she split from both her children’s fathers. 

For better or for worse, here is what has happened to the stars of Armageddon 25 years after the film’s release.

Bruce Willis remarried and was forced to retire from acting after he was tragically diagnosed with dementia

Action star Bruce Willis got his big break in the 1988 film Die Hard. 

Ten years later, he starred in Armageddon as professional driller Harry.

In the film, Willis’s character is tasked with leading a team to drill into an asteroid to detonate a bomb and save Earth. 

Even though it is still one of his biggest films to date, Willis wasn’t shy about his criticisms of the film and working with director Michael Bay.

‘I was disappointed with that film… Everyone tried hard, worked hard, but it was not to be,’ he told Aintitcoolnews.com as per FemaleFirst.

As for Michael Bay, he commented: ‘Few people will work with him now, and I know I will never work with him again.

‘It was a great crew, but a screaming director does not make for a pleasant set experience. But look, we were all big boys, and we got through it.’

Willis stuck by his promise and never worked with Bay again. However, he did work on plenty of other films.

He filmed another one of his big hits The Sixth Sense (1999) a year later as well as Unbreakable (2000) and Sin City (2005).

During this time, he also divorced his wife of 13 years, Demi Moore. He announced the separation the same year Armageddon hit theaters, 1998, and they ultimately divorced in 2000.

The two had shared three kids together: Rumer who was born in 1988, Scout who was born in 1991 and Tallulah who was born in 1994.

Willis opened up to Rolling Stone about how he still cared about the Indecent Proposal actress even after their split.

‘I still love Demi. We’re very close. We have three children whom we will continue to raise together, and we’re probably as close now as we ever were,’ he told the outlet. 

‘We realize we have a lifelong commitment to our kids. Our friendship continues. The institution has been set aside.’

It would be seven years until he would meet his second wife, Emma Heming, in 2007.

They made their first public appearance a year later at the premiere of his film, What Just Happened (2008), during which he admitted to People that ‘I was already in love with her.’

The couple tied the knot in the Turks and Caicos in March 2009. They then welcomed their first child, Mabel, into the world in 2012 and their second child, Evelyn, came two years later in 2014.

During those same years, Willis released his films Moonrise Kingdom (2012) and the sequel Sin City: A Dame To Kill For (2014).

As the years went on, Willis continued to film an endless stream of action films like Death Wish (2018). However, Hollywood as a whole was put on hold during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Willis and Moore made headlines after they spent four weeks in quarantine with their three daughters, two of their daughters’ boyfriends, and her assistant during the pandemic. 

‘We’ve become like a tribe,’ Willis told W Magazine at the time.

‘It’s generated a lot of interest because everyone can understand resentment and envy in the breakup of a marriage, but they don’t understand how I can get along with my ex like that.

‘Demi and I made a choice to put the kids first, and we’re really lucky that it turns out we all have fun together.’

After the pandemic, Willis continued to make films at a rapid fire speed. However, it would later come out that he had a terminal condition during that time.

In March 2022, the family announced the actor had aphasia in a joint statement signed by Moore and their children as well as his current wife, Heming, and her children with Willis.

An insider said his family is ‘doing whatever they can’ for him and ‘have rallied around him in a big way to help Bruce cope with what is to come.’

Bruce’s blended family issued a joint statement at the time announcing that he is ‘stepping away from the career that has meant so much to him.’

The statement revealed he had ‘been experiencing some health issues and [had] recently been diagnosed with aphasia, which [was] impacting his cognitive abilities.’ 

In a personal essay penned for Vogue, Tallulah, 29, recalled witnessing her father’s steady mental decline, admitting that she and her family initially blamed the 68-year-old’s ‘unresponsiveness’ on his ‘Hollywood hearing loss.’

However, as it grew more severe, she admits that she began to ‘take it personally,’ writing: ‘Later that unresponsiveness broadened, and I sometimes took it personally. He had had two babies with my stepmother, Emma Heming Willis, and I thought he’d lost interest in me.

‘Though this couldn’t have been further from the truth, my adolescent brain tortured itself with some faulty math: I’m not beautiful enough for my mother, I’m not interesting enough for my father.’ 

‘While I was wrapped up in my body dysmorphia, flaunting it on Instagram, my dad was quietly struggling,’ she recalled. ‘All kinds of cognitive testing was being conducted, but we didn’t have an acronym yet.’ 

Following his diagnosis, holidays became tough for the family – especially during Christmas of the year he was diagnosed, 2022.

His condition had declined, a source close to the family told RadarOnline at the time, and his family was coming together to spend every moment they could as a unit.

‘They know he won’t be around forever,’ the unnamed source said. ‘So they’re cherishing every single moment.’

The source went on to tell how Moore ‘has been in constant contact with Bruce and Emma.’

‘She takes every opportunity she can to spend time with him,’ they said, adding: ‘If she’s not there by his side, she’s calling on the phone just so Bruce can hear her voice.’

The source added that Moore and Heming had also become closer as the pair worked together to help the struggling actor.

‘Bruce can’t say much, and it doesn’t seem like he’s grasping much of what others say. So Emma’s really been the voice and communicator for him,’ they said.

‘There are days when they see glimpses of the old Bruce, but they are brief and far between.

‘It seems he’s slipping further away from them and it breaks their heart. The girls can’t imagine Christmas without Bruce.’

The unnamed source continued to explain how it’s ‘been painful to see him deteriorate,’ saying: ‘The older girls miss the old Bruce — the one who used to tease them about their boyfriends and give them unsolicited advice.’

Almost a year later, Heming and Moore released a joint statement revealing a more specific diagnosis. They revealed his dementia diagnosis while referring to their joint unit as ‘our family’ and him as ‘our beloved husband.’

‘Since we announced Bruce’s diagnosis of aphasia in spring 2022, Bruce’s condition has progressed and we now have a more specific diagnosis: frontotemporal dementia (known as FTD),’ they wrote.

Unfortunately, challenges with communication are just one symptom of the disease Bruce faces. While this is painful, it is a relief to finally have a clear diagnosis. 

In a bold show of unity, Moore, Heming and Willis’s three adult daughters shared the news of his latest medical hurdle in a joint Instagram post, which they signed: ‘Ladies of Willis/Moore.’

Upon learning of the diagnosis, Heming hired a dementia expert. 

‘I’m grateful I had the opportunity to work with [Teepa Snow] who has helped me add to my dementia care toolbox,’ she shared on Instagram.

‘She’s a loving, compassionate and skilled leader in this space who navigates herself with pure empathy. She’s a gift.’

That March, Heming, Moore and their families came together to celebrate Willis’s birthday. 

‘Happy birthday, BW! So glad we could celebrate you today,’ Moore wrote in the caption with an Instagram photo of the entire family gathered in celebration.

‘Love you and love our family,’ she continued. 

‘Thank you to everyone for the love and warm wishes – we all feel them.’ 

For that same birthday, Heming became emotional as she described making a reel for her husband – and called watching his videos ‘a knife in my heart.’ 

‘So today is my husband’s birthday,’ she began. ‘I have started the morning by crying. As you can see by my swollen eyes and snotty nose, I just think it’s important you see all sides of this.

‘So I worked on this reel that I’m posting for my husband’s birthday. I don’t know why I do that because the videos are like a knife in my heart.

‘But as much as I do it for myself I do it for you. Because I know how much you love my husband and – don’t cry Emma – but it means so much to me so thank you.’

Heming also struggled while celebrating her and Willis’s anniversary, and was honest about her feelings on an Instagram post. 

‘Today marks 14 years of marriage to the greatest love of my life. I woke with my heart full but what my mind kept going back to was another person’s act of kindness… I wanted to share as it inspired the heck out of me,’ she began in the caption.

‘It got me thinking about how hard these types of “special occasions” can be on caregivers. When usually our person would acknowledge the event, now their changing brains just can’t. And that is what it is,’ she added.

Most recently, both Moore and Heming wrote tribute posts to Willis on Instagram.

‘Forever grateful to you BW for giving me these three beautiful girls,’ the Brave New World actress wrote. ‘We love our #girldad. Happy Father’s Day!’ Moore exclaimed.

Bruce’s wife Heming posted her own loving message, sharing a snap of the action star with their oldest daughter, Mabel.

‘Father’s Day is a time I get to reflect on my deep appreciation and respect I have for Bruce as I watch him father our little ones,’ the former model wrote.

‘Where it might not be “conventional,” what he’s teaching them will span generations. Unconditional love, kindness, strength, compassion, patience, generosity, resilience.

‘Happy Father’s Day to the greatest dad I know, who will forever be the gift that keeps giving within our family.’

Ben Affleck went to rehab three times and dated Jennifer Lopez twice

Armageddon came out in the earlier days of Affleck’s career. In the 1998 film, he played A.J. – one of Harry’s recruits and his daughter Grace’s love interest.

Like Willis, Affleck had his own complaints about the film. On the Armageddon DVD, he commented on the film’s premise and director Bay’s defense of it.

‘I asked Michael why it was easier to train oil drillers to become astronauts than it was to train astronauts to become oil drillers, and he told me to shut the f*** up,’ Affleck said in the commentary. 

‘So that was the end of that talk. [Does Michael Bay voice] “You know, Ben, just shut up, OK? You know, this is a real plan.” I was like, “You mean it’s a real plan at NASA to train oil drillers?” And he was like, “Just shut your mouth!”‘

Three years later, the actor wound up in rehab in 2001 for his alcoholism. 

‘I went to rehab for being 29 and partying too much and not having a lot of boundaries and to clear my head and try to get some idea of who I wanted to be,’ he told THR upon reflection in 2012. 

‘It was more a “let me get myself straight” before it became a rite of passage.’

Leading up to his time in rehab, he was seeing Gwyneth Paltrow. They dated while he was filming Armageddon, but broke up in 2000, just before rehab.

She later admitted to Howard Stern that he ‘wasn’t in a good place in his life to have a girlfriend.’ 

Shortly after his stint in rehab, the actor returned to Hollywood and starred in films like Jennifer Lopez’s Gigli (2003).

While the film itself was a flop, it did bring about something positive. He and J.Lo began dating while working on the film in 2002 and quickly got engaged that year.

They were supposed to wed in 2003, but ultimately called the wedding off and broke up in early 2004. 

Not long after, he started dating Jennifer Garner. The two met in 2003 while filming Daredevil and started dating a year later. 

The two tied the knot in June 2005 and welcomed their first daughter, Violet, months later in December 2005. 

Their second daughter, Seraphina, came along four years after that. 

With two kids and six years of marriage under their belt, Garner seemed confident in their relationship in 2011.

‘I don’t know how or why it works as well as it does,’ she told InStyle of their marriage at the time. ‘Honestly, I would do anything for that man, because I know it’s not taken for granted.’

They welcomed their third child, Samuel, in February 2012 and shortly after that, it seemed the pair hit a rough patch. 

‘All marriages, all relationships to a certain extent, require your work,’ Affleck stated in 2013. ‘Nobody’s perfect. I would be lying to you if I said that either she or I were.’

After they were spotted leaving couples therapy in 2016, a source disclosed there was trouble in paradise.

‘They were in couples therapy for years,’ an insider told Us Weekly at the time. 

‘They were going to divorce when Sam was born but you know how it is — baby comes and solves the issues for a bit but it’s just a Band-Aid. It hasn’t been working for ages.’

During that time, Affleck continued to work. He starred in films like Hollywoodland (2006), Argo (2012), Gone Girl (2014) and Batman v Superman (2016). 

Ultimately, he and Jennifer couldn’t resolve their issues and they ended up finalizing their divorce in 2018.

‘After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce,’ they explained in a statement at the time.

‘We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to coparenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time.’ 

As their marriage crumbled, Affleck had two more stints in rehab in 2017 and 2018. 

‘I have completed treatment for alcohol addiction; something I’ve dealt with in the past and will continue to confront,’ Affleck wrote via Facebook in March 2017 after his second rehab stint. 

‘I want to live life to the fullest and be the best father I can be. I want my kids to know there is no shame in getting help when you need it, and to be a source of strength for anyone out there who needs help but is afraid to take the first step.’

While the divorce seemed amicable, many were surprised when Affleck attributed his alcoholism to their marriage shortly after he rekindled his relationship with Jennifer Lopez. 

‘That was part of why I started drinking alcohol – I was trapped,’ he told Howard Stern in December 2021. 

‘I was like, “I can’t leave because of my kids, but I am not happy. What do I do?” What I did was drink a bottle of scotch on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.’

After splitting from Garner, he had a two-year relationship with SNL producer Lindsay Shookus from 2017 to 2019 and a brief year-long relationship with Ana de Armas after they met on the set of Deep Water from 2020 to 2021.

In 2021, he reunited with J.Lo and had fans cheering for Bennifer all over again. They moved just as quickly this time around, tying the knot in 2022 and blending their families.

Initially, they seemed to struggle with co-parenting with Affleck’s ex Garner. It took until June 2023 for them to resolve their issues. 

The former couple have reportedly become ‘the best versions of themselves right now’ and have been working on ‘what is best for their kids.’

A source close to Garner and Affleck told DailyMail.com: ‘Ben and Jen have finally gotten to a point where co-parenting is the main goal for them both and to add any drama to that, they know that would be a big mistake.

‘Jen wants the best for Ben and really looks out for him and really likes that he is with JLo, because she grounds him and steers him away from his previous vices.

‘Jen is very happy with John [Miller] and feels that Ben should be happy as well in his personal life.

‘They both have moved on from the bitterness that a divorce can cause and are both the best versions of themselves right now, and they both know that it is what is best for their kids.

‘To be able to incorporate J.Lo’s kids in the mix on trips or holidays or in this recent case, Disney.

‘It is just the way their life is right now, it works, and it is as normal as possible. Everyone is friendly and happy with the way life is for all of them.’

Similarly, a source close to Lopez told DailyMail.com: ‘J.Lo is not going to be best friends with Jen, but they are friendly, and there is no animosity between them both.

‘J.Lo loves Ben’s kids and things are vice versa in Ben’s mind. To have each other, they both know they need to be accepting and loving of everything else that comes with them.

‘That is a big reason why they got back together because they are indeed soulmates but have figured out how to make it last this time around.

‘They have really matured and grown together and having their kids and exes interact with each other is just what is going to happen. It’s all good.’

As for Affleck and Lopez’s relationship, it is still going strong, despite speculation they were fighting at the premiere of her latest film, The Mother.

While some speculators interpreted their body language on the red carpet as tense and combative during a discussion, a source close to the couple told DailyMail.com that ‘the narrative that they’re continually fighting is false.’

‘They’re in an incredibly good place, very loving and supportive of each other,’ the insider revealed, before debunking recent reports they got caught in a public spat while promoting her thriller.

In addition to their alleged feud at The Mother premiere, the couple also was seen fighting in their car while stopped at a red light.

But it seems that at least, for now, Bennifer is here to stay.

Liv Tyler starred in The Lord Of The Rings franchise and had a whirlwind relationship with Joaquin Phoenix 

Liv may have discovered she was Steven Tyler’s daughter when she was eight years old, but she found her own way to fame.

She got her big break in Armageddon playing Harry’s daughter and A.J.’s love interest Grace.

The film helped her get her name out there and land the role of Arwen in The Lord of the Rings trilogy. 

During her time filming Armageddon, she was also dating famed actor Joaquin Phoenix. 

‘I fell in love with Joaquin the second I saw him,’ Tyler told The Morning Call in 1997. 

They met while starring in the 1997 film Inventing The Abbotts together, but kept their relationship a secret. 

‘[Joaquin] would sit at the other end of the makeup trailer and say, “Oh, my God, [Liv’s] such a babe,” and talk to the makeup girl. It would be like, “I could never get her,” and she believed him,’ Tyler explained.

‘I didn’t feel threatened or afraid of the idea to get involved with him when we were working,’ she said of the relationship. ‘I just kind of knew and hoped and prayed that I would love him forever.’

Unfortunately, their relationship did not last forever and they split before the release of The Lord of the Rings trilogy in 1998.

However neither have any regrets about the relationship’s demise and have no regrets about dating. 

In 1999, Phoenix said to Cosmo: ‘I’m a great believer in people coming into your life, and you into theirs, for a reason. And I know that when Liv and I met, it was for a reason — I really needed her and she really needed me.

‘And at a certain point, I think we stopped evolving with each other, stopped progressing, and made a very mature decision to move on, even though there was still a great love there. 

‘There’s no one gossipy thing that I can share. I’m thankful that we had the time we had.’

She also remembers the relationship fondly and told Elle that they were still friends in 2015.

‘I consider Joaquin and all of his sisters to be like family,’ she told the outlet.

‘We were so young when we were together, like 18 to 21. He was my first love. So he’s a huge part of even my sense of humor.’

After her whirlwind romance with Phoenix and The Lord of the Rings trilogy, she went on to work with Affleck again on Jersey Girl (2004).

Upon reuniting with Affleck, she told IGN: ‘The best advantage is I really like him a lot as a person and I feel like we have a really nice chemistry together. It just makes it all that better that we’re friendly and we communicate well.’ 

She also started dating Royston Langdon shortly after her split from Phoenix. They tied the knot in 2003 and welcomed their son Milo into the world a year later in 2004.

During her time with Langdon, her career hit another peak. She joined the Marvel franchise in The Incredible Hulk (2008) and also filmed The Strangers (2008).

However, their marital bliss came to an end in 2008 and the two separated, which was particularly rough for Tyler.

After the split, the actress had a two-year hiatus before plunging herself back into work on two films, an indie film titled Super and drama-thriller The Ledge.

‘I took a little time off before Super and The Ledge,’ she said.

‘I just had a rough couple of years, having Milo and then getting divorced and trying to rebuild my life again.’

Eventually, the actress did just that and was able to get back on her feet. She landed a main role on the TV series The Leftovers in 2014. That was the year she also started dating David Bekcham’s friend Dave Gardner. 

During this time, Tyler certainly felt the pressure to keep it all together. 

In 2015, she told More magazine: ‘I feel like I’m conducting a giant orchestra, because there’s so many moving parts. It’s like, “Over there, you guys do that!” And then, “Over there, you do this! All together now!”‘ she said. 

‘It’s kind of what it feels like to be a mom, isn’t it? In the modern world?’

That didn’t stop her from having more kids though. Later that year, they welcomed their son, Sailor, and two years later, in 2017, they had Luna.

After doing an adorable GAP shoot with her littlies in 2017, she weighed in on how she balanced working as an actor and having kids.

She told The Kit: ‘I just want them to be able to enjoy their lives and their friends and their schoolwork. I go off to work and I come home, and I try not to talk about it too much. 

‘They understand that sometimes I get dressed up and go out at night. When Milo was a baby and we were night-shooting for The Incredible Hulk, he told all his friends at the park, “My mommy works nights.”‘

In 2017, she moved with her husband Gardner and raised their kids in London.  

‘It’s like getting to have a whole new adventure,’ she said of the experience. ‘I always loved being in New York, but it’s kind of hard with little babies. London is amazing because there are so many parks.’ 

After a few years of peace, Tyler’s life got exciting once again. She landed the lead role in 9-1-1: Lone Star alongside Rob Lowe in 2020. Gardner also proposed to her in December 2020.

However, a year later, they split up.

Of their split, a source told The Sun: ‘Dave and Liv spent all of the first lockdown together and are a great team as parents but unfortunately, they’ve grown apart and increasingly they’ve been living separate lives.

‘Both wanted to focus on their careers — her acting and producing, and Dave running his business and working on David’s Inter Miami football project.’

She also had to turn down the opportunity to film season two of 9-1-1: Lone Star due to the pandemic.

Billy Bob Thornton married his fifth and sixth wife, one of which was Angelina Jolie

Just after getting his big break in the 1996 film Sling Blade, Thornton played the head of NASA Dan Truman who recruited Harry to save the world from impending doom.

Soon after, he starred in hits The Man Who Wasn’t There (2001) and Monster’s Ball (2001).

He didn’t make Sling Blade until he was 41 years old, but the actor claims he’s glad he had his big break later in life. 

‘If I had made it as an an actor when I was in my 20s or younger, I may not even be here now,’ he told People. 

‘I don’t think I was equipped in my early 20s to handle that, because I had a history in my late teens, early ’20s, of certain chemical refreshments and things like that. 

‘I don’t know if I would’ve made it through. I’m happy that things unfolded in a way that I didn’t force, that they just happened. I still appreciate that.’

Meanwhile, his love life was constantly buzzing. By the time the year 2000 rolled around, he was married to Angelina Jolie.

He was previously married to Melissa Lee Gatlin (1978-1980), Toni Lawrence (1986-1988), Cynda Williams (1990-1992) and Pietra Dawn Cherniak (1993-1997).

While his wedding with Jolie was his fifth, it certainly stood out.  

Jolie and Thornton infamously wore vials of each other’s blood while they were married.

In a 2014 interview with THR, he explained that it was Jolie’s idea.

‘She thought it would be interesting and romantic if we took a little razor blade and sliced our fingers, smeared a little blood on these lockets, and you wear it around your neck just like you wear your son or daughter’s baby hair in one,’ he said.

However, he also claimed that the media made it out to be more than it was, stating: ‘From that we were wearing quart jars of blood around our necks.’

Later on, he also tried to play down the blood necklaces while speaking with People. 

‘The necklaces were a very simple thing, “Hey let’s poke our fingers with a pen and smear a little blood on there and when we’re away from each other we’ll wear the necklace,”‘ he said.

‘It was that easy. But by the time it came out in the press it sounded like we were wearing a bucket of blood around our necks,’ he added.

Their marriage lasted for three years before Thornton got his fifth divorce in 2003.

Upon reflecting on their marriage, Thornton had nothing but positive things to say.

‘I remember our time together as really being great,’ he said on the HFPA in Conversation podcast. ‘We just had different lifestyles. Hers is a global lifestyle and mine is an agoraphobic lifestyle.

‘So… that’s the only reason we’re probably not still together, maybe, because of a different path in life we wanted to take.

‘I look at that time as a great time. Angie is still a friend of mine and she’s a great person and she’s done so much.’ 

Thankfully, the sixth time was the charm for Thornton. In 2014, he tied the knot with actress Connie Angland.

She was best known for her roles in Men In Black (1997) and Planet Of The Apes (2001).

Meanwhile, he also kept working, starring in the Bad Santa franchise, Whiskey Tango Foxtrot (2016) and The Gray Man (2022). 

Steve Buscemi transitioned from being a movie star to a TV star and tragically lost his wife of 30 years

Buscemi had broken into Hollywood a few years prior to Armageddon with the films Reservoir Dogs (1992), Fargo (1996) and The Big Lebowski (1998).

In Armageddon, he played one of Harry’s crew members, Rockhound, even though he famously joked that he didn’t understand how he had been cast.

After Armageddon, he continued to book high-profile films like Ghost World (2001) and Monsters Inc (2001).

He then went on to have a recurring role in The Sopranos. Buscemi was honored to act in a TV series which he referred to as ‘the best.’ 

‘I think it’s the best,’ he said on PBS’s Charlie Rose. 

‘I really think it’s not only the best television show that’s been on, but I think it’s really better than most movies or can compare with any of the greatest films.’

This seemed to turn Buscemi onto the idea of doing TV shows. 

In 2010, he took a lead role on the TV series Boardwalk Empire, which lasted for five seasons.

During that time, his wife of more than 30 years, Jo Andres, was diagnosed with cancer.

Unfortunately, she died from the illness in 2019. 

Though he doesn’t often talk about her, the Reservoir Dogs star did open up about her battle with cancer in 2020.

In an interview with GQ, the Golden Globe Award winner said that it was tough to see his wife go through so much pain.

‘The pain was the hardest thing,’ he told the outlet. ‘People who are going through that, it’s painful. It’s painful to die from cancer. There’s just no way around it.’

After that, Buscemi went on to star on the TV series Miracle Workers with Daniel Radcliffe. The show started in 2019 and still runs in 2023.

Wilson landed the role of Oscar in Armageddon early on in his career.

He has spoken fondly of the experience, expressing how he was excited to play a ‘spaceman.’ 

‘My characters name was Oscar Choi, and it was a great character!’ he told ET in 2022, adding that he was happy to be ‘ticking off the box of getting to play a kind of spaceman, a little bit.’

‘Early in my career can sort of charted by how long I lived, and so that movie, I think I made it to the 2nd act,’ Wilson added with a laugh. ‘So that was a little longer than in Anaconda.’ 

After Armageddon, he went on to make some of his biggest roles including Zoolander (2001), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001) and The Wedding Crashers (2005). 

His famous Fockers franchise also launched in 2004 with Meet the Fockers and continued with Little Fockers (2010).

He also had a very active love life during this time. He dated Sheryl Crowe from 1999 to 2001. He had a brief fling with Demi Moore in 2002 and eventually moved on to Kate Hudson, whom he saw from 2006 to 2009.

While he was at the height of his career and had a busy love life in the 2000s, he hid an ongoing struggle with his mental health. 

Wilson has rarely discussed his 2007 suicide attempt. The star was rushed to St. John’s Hospital in Santa Monica before being taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being found by his brother Luke, who called an ambulance.

In a statement released to TMZ at the time Wilson said: ‘I respectfully ask that the media allow me to receive care and heal in private during this difficult time.’

Later he has credited his brother, Andrew, for helping his life become ‘manageable’ after he attempted suicide, Esquire reported.

Wilson told the publication that Andrew ‘stayed in the house with him.’ 

He added that Andrew would ‘[rise] with him each morning and [write] up little schedules for each day so that life seemed at first manageable and then, at some point, a long time later, actually good.’

The Marley And Me star added at the time that he was in a good place and ‘feeling pretty grateful.’

‘I’ve been in sort of a lucky place of feeling pretty appreciative of things,’ he told Esquire.

‘I know everything’s kind of up and down, but when you get on one of these waves, you’ve gotta ride it as long as you can… Feeling pretty grateful. Well, grateful’s one of those words that get used all the time. Appreciative. Of, you know, stuff.’ 

After working on his mental health, Wilson returned to Hollywood in films like Marley & Me (2008), Hall Pass (2011) and the sequel to Zoolander, aptly named Zoolander 2 (2016).

While he continued to have an eventful love life, those relationships brought about children this time around.

He welcomed his first son Ford with his then-girlfriend Jade Duell in 2011. Three years later came his son Finn, whom he had during an affair with married trainer Caroline Linqvist.

The controversy came when his ex-girlfriend Varunie Vongsvirates revealed she gave birth to their daughter, Lyla, in 2018.

Varunie and Wilson casually dated for five years before splitting up. He underwent a paternity test in 2018 which confirmed he was the father. 

In 2019, she told DailyMail.com that her former lover is ‘not involved at all’ with their little girl and has ‘never’ even met his youngest child.

‘Owen has never met Lyla. Never,’ Vongsvirates explained. ‘He helps financially but it’s never been about that.’

Questioned about this, she added: ‘Lyla needs a father. It’s ironic how [Wilson] keeps getting these father roles, he’s playing a father in his new movie, and he’s never met his own daughter.’

Asked if she had a message for her ex, Varunie said: ‘You should see your daughter, she’s incredible, you’re really missing out. She looks just like you.’ 

He reportedly ‘checked the no visitation box in court in June’ and doesn’t want ‘any custody of her,’ a source told Us Weekly.
