White girl who lured victims to Asian gang blamed them

Carolann ‘Chucky’ Gallon told police that victims she lured to sexual abuse were to blame not her

A mother-of-two who found young white girls for Asian men to sexually exploit told police: ‘It’s self inflicted and I’ve got no sympathy for them’.

Carolann Gallon, 22, known as Chucky to friends, trafficked victims across the north of England and was jailed for six years and three months today.

She sobbed in the dock and yelled: ‘Love you dad’ as she was taken away – her father Jimmy then shouted out: ‘Can I just say how cruel a judge can be’.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how she took a young girl to a flat where she was fed booze and drugs and only woke up when she was being raped.

The teenager, who cannot be named, described how Abdulhamid Minoyee, 34, abused her and then ‘grinned’ after the violent sex attack.

He was jailed for 15 years for rape, sexual assault and drugs offences today.

After Gallon’s arrest she said the girls deserved the abuse for drinking and insists they weren’t children despite some being under 16.

She told detectives: ‘They shouldn’t have too much to drink, they are not some kid, they are 15 or 16. It’s self inflicted and I’ve got no sympathy for them’.

Gallon also told another girl forced to have sex against her will that she would be ‘chopped to pieces’ if she told anyone.

She found white girls as young as 13, most of whom were in children’s homes.

The court heard most of the victims who gave evidence were white British and the male defendants were ‘all of Asian extraction’ and mostly British-born.

The 17 men sentenced since Wednesday were part of a network of nearly 40 men, including Pakistani, Indian, Iranian, Iraqi, Bangladeshi and Turkish nationals, who preyed on around 100 girls.

Minoyee’s victim had been taken to his flat in Newcastle by Gallon, then 17 or 18, who was an active member of the 17-strong gang.

‘Chucky’ Gallon gave her alcohol and cannabis and said as she left: ‘You are staying here. You will be safe here, he [Minoyee] won’t do nothing to you, I swear down on my two kids’ lives’.

Prosecutor John Elvidge QC told today’s sentencing hearing: ‘She woke up find the defendant having sex with her. The defendant didn’t seek consent, instead he took advantage of her while in a drunken sleep.

‘When she realised she told him to stop but he didn’t and would not listen. He ignored her and carried on’.

He added: ‘Afterwards she put her clothes on, nothing was said between them but he had a big grin on his face’.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how a 13-year-old girl from a care home was found in Gallon’s home with bruised hands and love bites all over her neck.

Mr Elvidge said: ‘She told her foster mother she and her friend had been held against her will at a boy’s house. She said she had been drunk and forced to have sex’.

The prosecution said she also picked up a 14-year-old from a children’s home to be abused by a man, and she then ‘mocked’ the victim afterwards.

On one occasion she also helped men abuse a girl by taking her from Newcastle to Carlisle, 58 miles away.

Gallon was aged 17 or 18 at the time and the decision to put her in front of the courts was made by the Director of Public Prosecutions, with the view taken that Gallon was an active member of the gang and not a victim herself.

Now aged 22, she will be sentenced at Newcastle Crown Court after admitting three counts of trafficking girls for the purposes of sexual exploitation.

Vulnerable girls in the city’s west end were taken to parties, plied with alcohol or the drug M-Cat and persuaded or forced to have sex with older men.

Judge Penny Moreland has been sentencing gang members for the past four days, dealing with offences of rape, prostitution and drugs offences.

She has heard victim statements which demonstrated the psychological damage the young women have suffered, and heard how neighbours living near party venues were put through hell.

The judge will also sentence Abdulhamid Minoyee, 34, of Gainsborough Grove, Newcastle, for rape, sexual assault and supplying drugs.

The operation by Northumbria Police proved to be controversial as it emerged the force paid a convicted child rapist £10,000 to be an informant about the gang.

Grooming gang not racially or religiously motivated, judge rules

The grooming gang which preyed on girls was not racially or religiously motivated, a judge ruled.

Newcastle Crown Court heard how the defendants in the Operation Shelter trial, focused on exploitation of vulnerable girls in the West End of Newcastle, were of ‘Asian extraction’ and largely British-born, although some were born abroad.

John Elvidge QC, prosecuting, said the victims who gave evidence in court were all ‘white British’.

But the ethnicity of other potential targets was not known, he said, and one vulnerable girl who did not engage with police was black, and an Asian girl was seen at a party.

One defendant, who was not sentenced on Tuesday, had made racist remarks towards a ticket inspector, but he was cleared of any sexual offence.

Judge Penny Moreland said the gang picked out their victims ‘not because of their race, but because they were young, impressionable, naive and vulnerable’.

She said: ‘This is extremely serious offending against vulnerable members of society and that is the basis on which I intend to sentence.’
