White Sox activate DH Davidson from DL

The Chicago White Sox activated slugger Matt Davidson from the 10-day disabled list on Monday, the team announced.

Davidson has not played since May 22, missing the team’s last 11 games with back spasms. He is tied with shortstop Tim Anderson for the White Sox’s lead in home runs (11) despite playing 13 fewer games this season.

In addition to those 11 homers, the 27-year-old Davidson is batting .243 with 28 RBIs, with the latter figure ranking second on the team behind first baseman Jose Abreu. In his fourth MLB season, Davidson has spent 27 of his games at designated hitter, along with nine at third base and six at first.

Chicago also optioned catcher Alfredo González and infielder Matt Skole to Triple-A Charlotte, and the team plans to make additional roster moves before Tuesday’s doubleheader at Minnesota.

Gonzalez, 25, made his MLB debut on May 26 and has appeared in two other games, going 1-for-9 with an RBI and four strikeouts.

Skole, 28, homered in his MLB debut on May 28, the same day his contract was purchased from Charlotte when Davidson was placed on the DL. In four games, he went 3-for-11 with two walks.
