The shooting which marred last weekend’s Chicago White Sox game was the result of accidental discharge by one of the victims, according to reports.

Two females were shot during the fourth inning of the White Sox’s game against Oakland A’s on Friday night, with one grazed in the stomach and the other taking a bullet to the leg.

Yet according to ESPN Chicago host Peggy Kusinski, the gunshots came from the woman left with grazing after she accidentally fired the weapon inside Guaranteed Rate Field.

She is understood to have snuck it past security and through metal detectors by hiding it in the folds of her belly fat.

After reports circulated on social media of an alleged shooting, police confirmed late on Friday night that two women – age 42 and 26 – were indeed shot during the game.

Last weekend’s White Sox shooting was the result of accidental discharge from one of the victims, according to reports

Audio from 16th & 17th District Chicago Police Scanner on Twitter revealed that bloodshed had occurred in section 162, with a third victim left uninjured.

Additionally, police said that live rounds were recovered and that the victim who took a bullet to the leg was in ‘fair’ condition.

The game was finished as the White Sox lost 12-4. It is believed play was not interrupted despite the shooting incident, with the situation inside remaining calm throughout.

However, it meant that fans were initially left dismayed when a post-game concert starring rapper Vanilla Ice was cancelled for apparent ‘technical reasons’.

An announcement on the big screen at Guaranteed Rate Field informed spectators who had stuck around despite Chicago’s defeat that the event would no longer be taking place – without informing them of the earlier incident.

A fan named Tom Miller told ABC Chicago that he was sitting two rows behind where the shooting happened on Friday night.

Miller said that security ushered him and others to section six for around 45 minutes.

Mayor Brandon Johnson said he was made aware of the shooting shortly after it occurred Friday, but declined to say whether he was part of the decision to allow the game to continue or whether it was the right choice in hindsight.

‘Obviously, this is an ongoing investigation and the Chicago Police Department has done a remarkable job of gathering all the evidence and as more information becomes available, that information will be reported,’ Johnson said.

The White Sox said Saturday that they were not initially aware of a shooting during the game, and that the Chicago Police Department would have stopped play if officers thought it was unsafe to continue.
