She may have died in tragic circumstances – but that doesn’t mean fans can’t still see her perform.

A hologram of late pop powerhouse Whitney Houston, who died in 2012 aged 48, has just kicked off a tour – with the first show playing in Sheffield last night.

An Evening With Whitney, which will tour across the UK and Europe, features a digital recreation of the singer, created using a body double, a CGI synthesiser and hundreds of hours of performance footage.

The hologram will be projected on to the stage, performing with a live band and a troupe of professional dancers.

It will feature Miss Houston’s biggest hits such as I Will Always Love You.

Pat Houston, the singer’s sister-inlaw, said it was ‘the right time’ for the tour, and added that it is ‘in the spirit of Whitney’.

A hologram of Elvis Presley was used in an episode of American Idol in 2008.
