Barcelona starlet Ansu Fati became the youngest Champions League scorer in history after striking in win against Inter Milan… but who did he overtake to break the 22-year record?
- Ansu Fati scored his first Champions League goal against Inter on Tuesday night
- Strike at the San Siro made him the youngest scorer in the competition’s history
- The 17-year-old overtook Peter Ofori-Quaye, who got his goal over 22 years ago
- Cesc Fabregas, Karim Benzema and Aaron Ramsey also feature in the top 10
Ansu Fati wrote himself into the Champions League record books on Tuesday night when he became the youngest player to ever score in the competition.
The Barcelona starlet, who was only 17 years and 40 days old when he struck the winner against Inter Milan at the San Siro, jumped ahead of Peter Ofori-Quaye by around five months.
The Ghanian striker was playing for Olympiacos in the 1997-98 season when he scored against Rosenborg, setting a record that would stand for more than two decades.

Ofori-Quaye had not yet reached his 18th birthday when he found the back of the net in Europe’s elite club competition – and he’s not the only player to achieve that feat.
In total, nine of the 10 youngest Champions League scorers – including Fati – got their first goal when they were just 17 years old.
Barca’s talented teen joins an illustrious list of names, which includes Cesc Fabregas, Aaron Ramsey and Karim Benzema.
Chelsea midfielder Mateo Kovacic sits third on the list, however, having netted for Dinamo Zagreb against Lyon in 2011, when he was just 17 years and 215 days old.

Bojan Krkic scored his first Champions League goal against Schalke when he was just 17
Bojan Krkic, another prodigy from Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy, comes next after scoring for the Spanish giants in a game with Schalke in April, 2008, when he was just a day older than Kovacic.
Fabregas (17 years, 217 days) is fifth after grabbing a goal against Rosenborg for Arsenal in 2004, while the little-known Martin Klein (17 years, 240 days) is sixth after scoring for Sparta Prague against Panathinaikos way back in 2002.
The most recent strike in the top 10 came from Breel Embolo (17 years, 263 days), who scored for Basle against Ludogorets in 2014 before going on to earn a big money move to Schalke two years later.

Aaron Ramsey also netted for the Gunners when he was just 17 – against Fenerbahce in 2008
Ramsey (17 years, 299 days) is one spot behind Embolo, having found the back of the net for Arsenal against Fenerbahce more than two months before he turned 18.
The Welshman sits a place ahead of Karim Benzema (17 years, 353 days) after his strike for Lyon against Rosenborg in 2005 – the first of his 64 goals in the competition.
And in 10th position is Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who was 18 years and 44 days old when he netted his first Champions League goal for Arsenal against Olympiacos back in September, 2011.
