BBC breakfast star Charlie Stayt is facing a threat of bankruptcy after being served a petition by HMRC.
The morning show host, 61, and his actress wife Annie Breckell found themselves £6,409 in the red as they filed their company’s accounts in December last year.
The couple – who live in a £2.3million four-bedroom home in Twickenham, South West London – were threatened with bankruptcy by the government agency on Monday.

Charlie began his career on a commercial radio station in his home town of Gloucester, before moving to host Capital Radio’s news programme in London.
In 1995 he began his TV career working for ITN, then joined Five News as a reporter before presenting the network’s prime-time bulletins and half-hour live debate programmes.
He anchored their coverage of 9/11 and the Millenium celebrations, before working at Sky News.
He has even done a spat of reality TV. hosting shows Jailbreak and Are You Telepathic, as well as being a contestant on The Weakest Link in 2022.
The star has remained down South despite his fellow co-stars relocating closer to Media City in Salford, Manchester, where the BBC show is broadcast from.
News of his potential bankruptcy comes after he recently came under fire from an interview he did with the shadow chancellor of the exchequer, Rachel Reeves.

Ms Reeves was on BBC Breakfast in February after Labour scrapped its green pledges.
However Charlie’s line of questioning, which including probing the Labour MP about her relationship with Sir Keir Starmer was heavily criticised online.
Taking to X, one social media user posted: ‘Come on @BBCBreakfast get your presenters on some interview courses. Always interrupting, asking the same question in a different way just to get the same answer – so irritating.’
And a second agreed, adding: ‘why does Charlie feel it necessary to speak over the opposition politicians? Awful ‘interviewing’ – rude patronising & fails to listen. Stop talking over a woman Charlie!’
